greetings.  i know this is a little off-topic for the monster board, but hopefully someone will find it useful.
the immersed fuel pump on my 1990 851 died the other day.  ducati graciously offered to sell me
a new one for $800 (yeah, for a fuel pump).  turns out that bosch makes a $200 replacement for
the weber original.  give me a PM if you would like the serial number or a site to purchase from.

there may be similar replacement possibilities for more modern ducatis.

I also have to ask why not just post the information?

It would also be nice to post it to the Yahoo Ducati-851-888 group, although the guys there probably already know where to get the best deal on fuel pumps that would work.

851 pump is 2" in diameter with the 2 threaded lugs on top? Take it out and go to Napa or Auto Zone. A generic replacement should be under $100. Most do-it-on-the-cheap auto shops will buy whatever fuel pump fits and then put new electrical connectors on the wires if they don't fit.

Fuel pumps are amazingly generic devices. Most of the differences I found in them during my quest to get the latest Ducati fuel pumps is that everyone changes the shape just a little bit to try and keep the consumer confused and artificially drive up the prices. I'm selling the same $300 pump that you can buy for a Mitsubishi for $149, only mine is 1/2" longer. :P
