I have a pair of 696 mirrors I want to try on my '01 M750. The attaching bolts are smaller. Do I need the 696 handlebar clamp pieces from the 696 to mount these mirrors? Will they fit the older reservoirs?

Thanks, Dave

Well, I guess I will answer my own question. New 696 handlebar clamps do fit the older reservoirs. You need two clamps, 2 bolts to secure the mirror to the clamp, 2 lock washers and of course, two mirrors. Everything fits and works great. The mirrors are a tremendous improvement over the mickey mouse mirrors as far as utility goes. (beauty is still in the eye of the beholder so I will not go there) Some vibration at low RPM that smooths out and goes away completely above 3000 RPM. Great view behind and minimal view of my elbows.

I purchased the parts from Ducati Seattle and they were very helpfull. There is still one part that the new bikes have that I do not. That is a dish shaped washer that goes between the clamp and the mirror. Not sure what it does. Anyone have thoughts on that? Perhaps a replacement for the lock washer?

Man. I absolutely hated those mirrors. ;D

Washers might have something to do with keeping them from blowing loose at high speed (I can't really remember (backwards threading confuses me), but the wind pushes either the right one or both of them in the loosening direction). Mine needed some gnarly spring washers to keep this from happening.
