I know bikes nowadays dont usualy have dipsticks for the oil, but a little window on the side of the motor instead...  Bike is about due for the 600mile checkup and all i can see threw the window is condensation...  How bad is this? or not at all...?

Hold on I dont wanta sound like a complete noob... there still is oil in the bike, its not dry by any means... but I am afraid there is a bad seal some where... Or is that just somthing that happends on thoes little windows...

calscrazy

when you take it in let them know so they can address it. when bike is upright you should be able to see oil level evn with some condensation.

and check it when it has cooled down...  when it's hot, most of the oil will still be trapsing about the insides of your bike...

maybe that's a dumb answer...

yeah i edited the orig. post.  I made it sound like there was no oil... the oil levels are fine... but the window is clouded when the bike is cooled down...

When the bike is upright, meaning not leaning over on the kickstand, you should see the oil level through the sight glass on the motor case. Ducati, Suzuki, Honda... whatever. It's all the same. Bikes haven't had dipsticks in my 44+ years of riding. My Honda lawnmower has one though. If it's due for it's 600 mile check up the oil and filter change is a major part of that whole check up. Every bike manufactuer has the first service at 600 miles and the oil/oil filter change is one of the most important parts of that service. Regardless of bike brand that first service is one that should not be skipped.

it's never happened on mine and i ride in all weather. bike parked outside at work. 14k in 18 mos.

Is it condensation or is it milky white in the sight window?

Check this thread for info on the subject.

If you're riding the bike long enough to get the oil good and hot, seems like it would burn off all the moisture inside the crankcase, therefore there would be not much left to condense on the inside of the glass.

Bingo! thanks...

And to the other guy that posted about the 600 mile service... I know, and will get It done and not miss it,  I know they do an oil change and stuff but didnt know if the condensation I was seeing was normal or should this be mentioned to them when the bike gets dropped off...
It has been cooler latly and my last few rides have been only to work, In which im usualy only hitting 150deg. F by the time I get there... (ie short ride)

But thankyou guys for the info. :D

Hey, never be bashfull about posting up questions on the board. There are lots of knowledgeable folks on this board who are happy to answer any questions... no matter how dumb you think they are. Don't let that ever stop you from asking. This is a really good group and unless we know you really well we would never give you s#@t about newbie questions. Just ask and you will be answered. man...if i had a dime every time i got drunk and decided to start a project, and then realized halfway through i didn't know what the hell i was doing, and then posted up for advice on how to finish/fix it....  well, i'd probably have at least four bucks.  and that's enough to buy a sonic blast with double toppings for sure.

I'm glad that thread has the answer for your question.  The DMF knowledge base is pretty big and there's plenty of people that are willing to help get your tech questions answered.  Not just on the local board, but the Tech forum has pretty much every answer you can look for.  Don't be afraid to ask a tech question, it's best way to learn about your bike.
