Yeah, I'd cut a hole in the plastics for frame sliders.  For some reason I've been thinking of doing that exact thing with my bike...

Frame sliders twisted my frame. Bad Bad when they dig into the dirt at cresson and make your bike do flips  :P

My frame sliders are under-body.

Lisa,

Check out the SpeedyMoto under bodywork frame sliders. I have them on the 999, 996 and the 916. Even with sliders you will still bugger up the side panels if you fall down. Maybe a zero mph garage drop you won't. I'd be reluctant to "hole" a fairing for sliders except maybe a dedicated track day bike that will go down sooner or later anyway. Just my two cents.

This would seem like a design opportunity for someone - must be a way to make them less snaggy!

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

That's easy. Stay out of the dirt. [laugh] OK, end of smart ass remarks and back to normal thread content. [cheeky] I actually have heard other similar stories. I know they are true but I guess you play the percentages. I would guess they help more than hurt, especially to the expensive metal parts under the skin.

My new 999 has sliders that poke out pretty far, beyond the bodywork. During it's last crash one of the sliders snapped off. I am going to convert to the underbody style. I think that's more durable, even for a racebike.

I agree. It's not really the bodywork you are trying to save in a crash, it's the expensive metal underneath... as I said before. Sure, they are great in garage and parking lot drops at saving bodywork but there is a reason folks put them on un-faired scooters. It's all about the costly metal stuff. For sure if you go down at high street or track day speed the bodywork is toast, holed fairing sliders or under body sliders, either way. The point is saving the metal guts... naked or fairing, doesn't matter.

My main problem is I know I would do a shi@@y job of holing a fairing to match up to the slider. It would look like doo doo so why even try? SpeedyMoto is smart enough to know that folks like me need an alternative. Bingo... under bodywork sliders. Genius. [thumbsup]

Cool!  Hadn't really thought too far beyond the physics of anything other than a garage drop at this point so I'll check out the under-frame sliders  [thumbsup]
