Hoping someone can point me in the right direction...

I've recently installed Autocad on my 'puter and want it to run quicker.  Would installing more memory sticks help or am i simply limited by the size of the hard drive?  What's this RAM thingie?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

More RAM is always good Kevin. Check how much space you have available on your HDD but more than likely, more RAM will make it go quicker.

Give me a call if you want to chat. :)

Thanks Dan, Are Ram the removable sticks?

EvilSteve

Yep, you can upgrade your RAM pretty easily depending on what kind of computer you have. I think I remember that you had a Dell? If so, you can go on their site & find out which RAM you need. They'll be more expensive than just buying online I think. You can also upgrade your hard drive if you need more space too.

If you want help with any of this, let me know, more than happy to give you a hand mate.

W/ Cad you definately need more ram. If you have Vista   :-[  you can try to use use a 2gig thumbdrive as extra cache it is called "ready boost" You need a fast thumb drive it is a cheaper way and for some programs it really helps. If you are getting real ram you might as well fill it up especially for cad.

dont forget that 32bit windows can only support up to 4gb so dont go wasting money on 8gb.

I run solidworks 2008 and I just doubled my RAM and went to 2gb, it'll give it a good kick in the ass  [thumbsup].

I'm ashamed to say this but i'm currently only running 256MB or RAM.  I'll grab some 512's and use those as 1 Gig is all this 'puter will tolerate..

You are not referring to SD cards or flash drives right?

opinion914

i dont think so, it's a 256mb stick.  I went and ordered (2) 512's and that will max the 'puter out.  Hopefully i'll notice a difference.  thanks for the help. If this doesn't do the trick i suppose i'm looking a t larger motherboard, or mothership, motherfacker..whatever.

EvilSteve

You'll definitely notice a difference Kevin. :)

You're on the right track and should see a material difference.
