To sell, or not to sell

that is the question :(

got laid off yesterday, this morning will be my last day of work...

do i keep the toys ('93 yz250, '07 695) or do i bite the bullet?  apparently per CA law, i'm still getting paid thru march-ish (don't know the exact details b/c yesterday was my day off - i decided surfing was a better option than the "mandatory" all hands meeting)...

i'd probably be more willing to part with the yz but still. argh!

Don't sell.

It'd be competition for my bike, which is for sale.  :P
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Yikes, that's not good news.   :-\ I have no idea, but I think waiting a week prob won't kill you.  Good luck with whatever you do!
I love my RED 620!

Sorry to hear that, man! What do you do? The DMF has been known to help people find work in the past :)

At this point I imagine you're in panic mode. I've been there before: What can I sell? How can I spend less money? Can I really get away with robbing a bank? It's a natural reaction. But keep your head about you, mate. Now's not the time to sell a bike...wintertime nets lower prices and more sluggish demand. And you'll probably have a clearer picture of your situation after a while.

My prescription for you: drinking. Seriously. Come on out to Zeitgeist one night. We'll keep you company.

Sorry to hear about that :(, best of luck.  I agree, sit and think on it a bit before making any big decisions.

Are they bought and paid for? or still making payments. IF they are paid for i would keep, you can always cut insurance down to comprehensive only for theft.

There are a lot of factors to consider before dumping your toys.  Ya might just be freakin' out and you'll have another job before you know it.  Selling your bike(s) might not net you anything in the end if they're not worth anything.  And even if you do sell them, how long do you think that money will last?  If it's the difference between getting dinner and turning the heat on and being cold and hungry, well then, I think you've got yourself a pretty good reason to unload some of your wheels.

You won't get much for the YZ.
Sell your car, keep the bike.

You're a dick -- purposely makin' our lives more difficult.
I'm gonna shit in your helmet the next time I see you.

There are a number of people on here in the same boat as you. I've considered selling my car, but definitely not my motorcycle. There are many other places that I can cut back to make a greater impact in saving $$ over time than the immediate money made by selling my Monster.

As far as bike costs, just try and do more service yourself (we should have another tech day soon), buy sport touring tires rather than race/sport tires for their longevity, maybe take it a little easier on acceleration to conserve gas (I'm already getting 45-50 mpg riding normally) and hold off on any extra gear/part purchases completely.

Good luck!

Keep the YZ. maybe you can use it to make money doing stunts [cheeky]

But seriously keep the YZ they aren't making those anymore.

As others have said ... unless you are in the position that you won't have food or a roof over your head real soon ... if they are paid off, I'd hang onto it for now.  Let your head clear for a bit and think things through, I went through the same thing when my job was being eliminated a few years back.

Right now you're not going to get much for either of them until the spring.

Do you use Facebook or better yet Linkedin.

I can add you on my profile and you can get more exposure for finding a new job.

second that, few thousand bucks wont last long.  Maybe get an over qualifying job, just for the sake of payin rent.

Sorry to hear that.

Like others have said, selling the bikes wouldn't be the long term solution unless you're destitute and need the $$$ now for basic needs now. Put off making that decision, if you can, for awhile longer.

Sorry to hear about getting canned.

I basically keep everything for sale.  If somebody wants to give me a fair offer for just about anything I have, I'm willing to listen.
