Well, since my boyz weren't in the SupaBowl (Go Lions!  ), I figured that yesterday would be a good day to finally mount up my MotoGadget gauge and warning lamps on the '95 Monster. 

First off, let me say that after owning four early Monsters, I really dislike this gauge panel.  It just screams 'COST CUTTING MEASURE!' every damn time you look at it...  <sigh>

Anyway, for reference, here's the oldie:



The new gauge mounting panel took the longest time to do yesterday.  The gauge still isn't wired up, but at least it's mounted.  (Yippee!  I'll finally have a tachometer!!!)



Plus it just looks hella-sexy like that, eh?  I'll put up my comments and problems as the wiring bit goes along in this same thread so it can be used for reference maybe even for a different gauge swap.    [moto]

Wow    What an improvement!!  When I bought my 1st duc, I passed on a 95 and bought a 2001.  I told myself it was cause of the miles,  and age, but really it was the instrument panel.  It made it feel like you were sitting on some  80's beater. Good work!   

Definitely post up the wiring.  I don't have plans now, but I also don't have an immobilizer.

Just got the wiring diagram pdf printed today.  Will likely have some wiring done tonight and finish up shortly as I'm itchin' hard to ride the bike with the new gauges...     [moto]

Hahaha...  The early bikes had a couple different choke locations.  One was on the left side of the frame (mostrobelle's 94 is like that), and Allegra (my '95) has the choke coming up through the top triple nut.  When I got the bike, there was a chrome bezel on there but no plate that read 'CHOKE' or anything.  We (Speeddog and I) were nearly finished with the bike and I looked at this bit of unfinished-ness and thought,'Hmmmm, that looks about the same size as a quarter.'  So, we siliconed one in there.  The former owner (my deceased friend Dennis) LOVED it! 

BTW, I figured out the wiring last night...  now to get some time to do it!

Lol, good story.  That's interesting, I had no idea the chokes were ever put anywhere other than the left hand control area.

It's a 1995 quarter, too.

Yeah, the early bikes were a *real* hodge-podge of mis-matched stuff.  Bizarre really...

These are great gauges from MotoGadget. (We installed quite a few for customers over the years) Easy to read and use.  ONLY real bad thing about it is when riding at night -- all the people riding with yourself or drivers in cars alongside all watch the tachometer bar rotate about the gauge itself.  It really is mesmerizing.

Any of you had luck getting the Motogadget gauge to work with the stock oil temp sensor?

So is this Dennis' green monster or am I mis-remembering people?

Yes, this was the bike I built for my friend Dennis (den-bike was his log-in).  He's been gone about 7 months now...  But I still feel him hangin' around when I'm blasting through the corners on ACH on this bike!  [moto]

You gotta get a vid of the gauge running. Since the last post about how mesmerizing the gauge is to watch I'm curious now.

I take it the time, and oil temp don't work for these? Not a huge deal cause it looks sick

I could get an oil temp sensor (my bike doesn't have one BTW) from MotoGadget and mount it somewhere and wire it in but it's too much hassle for me as I have the oil-temp/oil-fill cap already on the bike.  If I need oil temp, I just look down to see it.  Works for me...
