Mine is too.  The Bulliet is nice, but you're right, not near as smooth as something like Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, Eagle Rare etc.  It's as rough as Elijah Craig, but has that really nice oaky flavor I like ~

Sorry to have steered you "wrong."

I'll have to try some of those listed.

check out this list...

I enjoy Makers and Bulliet, but I have to admit that over my Christmas vacation I developed a taste for blended Scotch a bit more than bourbon.  I didn't care for my last bottle of Knob Creek and I don't think I would buy it again.

I was eyeing up a bottle of 12year Van Winkle, but I drink too much for a $50 bottle of rot gut.

What's "Flash off?"

JM

Similar to painting with a solvent based Lacquer.  When you first apply it, the solvent evaporates giving off harsh fumes.  When you first pour a glass of Bookers neat, the fumes can be harsh unless you employ proper breathing technique...

A little water or a couple cubes will ease the drink and make it more palatable IMO.

But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

We're hitting the "tax free' state next weekend, so it'll be Bruichladdich (as recommended by ramjet).  If it's rotgut, you're on the waterballoon targeted list for DIMBY!!!

Favorite cheap bourbon, particularly for making Old Fashions = Elijah Craig.

Favorite neat bourbon = Blanton's.  I can't believe Blanton's hasn't been mentioned in this thread.

New discovery that is great neat = Michter's (also not mentioned yet).

For the noob: describe 'proper breathing technique'.

My fav...Russels Reserve...great price too!  ~$30 but better than many $60 Scotch...

He Man, the Brandy Library in Tribeca has a great (and reasonably prices ~$35) bourbon tasting.

Breathing technique:  Do not inhale through your nose or mouth while taking a sip.  Hold your breath slightly when you get the glass within a foot of your face.  Trust me on this....

Sniff it slightly first without intention of taking a sip and you'll see what I mean, especially with a fresh pour.  Good Luck!

This will, most likely, take many repetitions to successfully master.   [laugh]

Just picked this up. My bourbon connection naively ordered three cases and just got this one bottle. My good luck he called me first!

p.s. hope you don't mind the back drop Peter

Nice p/u. I grabbed another bottle of Stagg, bringing my total to three. Time to start drinking.
