I was at a local shop today and they have a yellow 2000 Monster 900....stock w/13,000kms and a 2007 S2R 1000 w/3,000 kms.  Now the price difference is $5,000 if I recall.
Both bikes are stock.... which do you go with.
Oh, the 900 is yellow and the S2R is red/w red frame and white wheels :-\

Absolutely no brainer for me... the s2r1000 will save you money and headaches in the long run. It will last longer run better handle better and generally give you a better experience for a longer period.

the extra money is well spent on the s2r, That's my opinion

Grampa

not enough info given.

what is the price of the 900 and what is the price of the s2r?

I assume this is your first duc. Are you aware of insurance and maintenance costs on either?

are they both trade ins?

have either been serviced recently?

was the s2r a demo?

Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

The 900 is likely to have an Ohlins on the rear and fully adjustable Showas up front, if that matters to you.

I'd say it depends on the suspension between the two, whether you like the single sided swingarm or the dual sided one better, and whether you like red or yellow better. $5K is a lot of money to trick ou the 900 though.  ;D

I've owned a 900 (Monster) and a 1000 (Multistrada)...and honestly I liked the 900 engine better. Hard to say why...I just did.

I'm not sure why a couple of people are saying the S2R will give you less trouble.  ??? The 900 is a bomb proof engine, and 13,000 km is nothing.

My S2R 1000 has 13,000KM, is it gonna explode on me?
my M900 had 80,000KM.

mileage means nothing.

I liked my 900 better as well, that because it was 944'd and pumping torque out the ass.
2006 Ducati S2R1100 Yea.... stunttin like my daddy CHROMED OUT 1100!!!!

Buy the 900, and spend the 5 K on making it your own [thumbsup]

Pick which ever one turns you on the most. Both are good and will last forever, but for me, $5000 is a lot.

raulduke

look as soon as you buy the s2r you are gonna start looking at mods...believe me you just are.

therefore, buy the 900 spend 3k on mods right out of the box, pocket 2k and maybe your bike will be custom enough that you can leave it alone for 6 months without doing more to it.

neither of these bikes is going to break down, they are going to cost major cash though as your pour the mods in...I spent $4k on my stock bike...now have 8k in it and I'm thinking I will put new heads and pistons on next week.

yeah 5K is a lot of spud. As long as the 900 is in good shape, I'd buy that and use the 5K for other stuff,,, upgrades, trackdays whatever. But if money's not an issue, then its moot...

thanks for all the replies... it's made things easier :-\
I like the 900... but I also like the S2R for the SSA.... hmm.... I have always liked the original monster, and to me the 900 screams originality.
There will have to be some serious thinking on this one.

thanks again all.... good bunch of people here.

Me = Go with M900.  I bought my M750 with similar mileage and now it's got 49,600km on it and I'm very happy with it ~
