Looking for a lid for my kid

Went to Motorcycle accessories @ Auburn yesterday to buy a road helmet for my 11 yo son. No luck. The few XXS ones they had were still too big.
Guy serving me mentioned that manufacturers aren't into the kid's road helmet market in Oz.

I'd much prefer to get him a road helmet (with visor) rather than an MX helmet.

I've seen a few on overseas websites so they are made. But I want him to try on for correct fit and want to buy one which is approved in Oz so I need a bricks & mortar shop in Sydney. Prefer not to break the bank but safety is primary concern (by a mile) so I'll pay what I have to.

Any ideas? Thanks

Hi Tim,
I bought one for my 7yr old.

OT Rant: Screw that NSW law about them having to be 8yrs old.

Anyway, it's an HJC helmet, bought it at Procycles St. Peters. It's a road helmet. No peak, so def. not a MX helmet. Check them out.

Brilliant.

It's down the road from work.

I'll check it out.

Thanks so much!

They often don't stock a whole lot of them, but hopefully you'll get one that makes him happy! Good luck!

Just gave them a buzz but they say they have none now. They suggested trying their Hornsby store so I'll give them a call.

Have a look at some of the Italian lids such as YES or even AGV. They tend to run small in terms of sizing. My 5 year old wore (until they changed the law) a YES which fit well.

Failing that you'll find that there's more available for kids in motocross gear, and some makers do kids lids. I've bought an M2R (?) for my 4 year old that fits him.

Cheers

Haven't seen the YES brand around (except for golf putters...very nice) but I might try helmet warehouse to see what their smallest AGV is in stock.

Thnx.

dragonworld.

Congrats to you Tim  [thumbsup]

Way to many dickhead parents give their loved ones the crappy old helmet they had in the shed for 10 years or more, or they bought second hand at the flea market.  [roll]

Thanks Dragon World. Yep the kids are a bit too precious to skimp on safety. The wife on the other hand....(only kidding. she's great!)

Checked the helmetwarehouse website and they claim to have the HJC lids (full face, road) in youth sizes so I'll be taking a trip back out to Yagoona (where I bought mine only a month or so ago).

Had spoken to Hornsby Procycles but it sounded like they had very limited supply and wanted to steer me towards MX style.

As a left-field alternative. Try some of the Go-Kart (Race karts) shops. They often cater for smaller kids, since Karting races start for 7 yo's and up. - Chris
