Although I'm reviving a somewhat old thread...would you use some sort of GIS software for that?  A friend of mine uses ArcGIS (I think), and he has a whole bunch of map files that he can import.  What I would like to do is just keep track of the roads that I've ridden on in a season for my own personal interest.  Can you recommend anything in particular, and do you happen to know where can I find the road data?

can not help with software.. but I can help with the roads in the area
