Today's Ride to the Rock Store - with 27 Pix

I rode to the Rock Store today.  Great time; big crowd.  But before I went I remounted my mirrors.  While lane splitting the other day I clipped car mirrors THREE times.  So I mounted them below the bars so I could angle them in and still see behind me.

Not too happy with the looks, but they work.  Major lane splitting today on the hwy heading to the hills and not a clipped mirror (or elbow) in sight.

Here are some pix from the Rock Store.  What's amazing about this crowd is that this was no special occasion.  It's just a bunch of Sunday morning riders.  There were two DD16s and many other interesting bikes.  I liked the 4 cylinder "BSA" and the FXR 1700 flat tracker.  The V-Rod side hack rig with center hub steering (owned by that "Biker Lawyer" guy), not so much.

Is that really Scott Parker's helmet on the ground in the last pic? Was he there or was that just his helmet? Do I need to translate just how f#@king famous Scott Parker is to this Ducati board? [laugh]

I didn't even notice, but I'm afraid that when it comes to the provenance of that helmet your guess is as good as mine (better actually).

Here's a close up (probably a repli-racer helmet):

Thanks.  They'll probably be like my red header pipes: Hated 'em at first, but wouldn't part with 'em now.

Where is this "Rock Store" and why such a good place to ride to? I'm impressed with the number of bikes that are 'uncommon' to say the least.

Cool pics Norris. [clap] And who was it that just posted "what's so special about the Rock Store"? [bang] I'm guessing they don't know about Parker either. [laugh] Dude, the Rock Store is as famous as Daytona Speed Week as far as bike riding destinations... only on a different coast! [bow_down]

LOL!

The Rock Store is on Mulholland Hwy in the Santa Monica Mountains.  It was a 58 mile ride (one way) from my crib about 15 miles East of Downtown LA.  Why is it a great ride?  Twisties.  Close to the city.  Twisties.   Cool bikes to see.  Twisties.  Occasional celebrities (Jay Leno).  Twisties.

I screen captured some Google Map shots of a route from Hollywood to the Rock Store, and then on to Malibu for reference:

Did I mention Twisties?

Fair enough. Not familiar with anything on the West Coast, just moving here from Tennessee, we speak of North Georgia Mountains, Deals Gap, and the like.

Had you said "Barber MSP" or something, I would have been right there with you.

Ronr

Cool pix.  Looks like some kickass roads.

OK... twenty points for the Barber reference. [thumbsup] As I said in a previous post, it's one of my top two destinations and I have ridden the Alps! I could live in that museum. No... make that living in heaven on Earth! [thumbsup]
