Coming up on time to replace my Arai (Corsair RX7)

Tried some new ones on, and the new ones just don't fit quite right. 

Tried on a AGV GP-Tech.  Fits very well. 

What are your thoughts on the quality of AGV v. Arai? 

Ha! Gotcha at Transportation Revolution, did they? 

Made it out of there with wallet intact...  barely.

That black 1198S kept following me around the store, tugging at my pant leg.

Wish I could have made it to the party.  Have lots of questions that the AGV rep could have answered by the rep.

I wear an Arai RX7 and it's time to replace it. I really like that helmet. The new ones do fit differently.

It will be with an AGV or a Suomy

I'm told by someone that's been wearing both Arais and AGVs over the past several years that the AGV is quieter, plenty light, and doesn't buffet in the wind....and the shield is easy to change.

The Suomy on the other  hand is supposedly noisier, lighter than either the Arai or AGV, doesn't buffet in the wind...and the shield is easy to change.

Buy what fits.

I wear Arai RX-7s , and also occasionally a Suomy Bayliss Replica.

The Suomy is more noisy if you have the front vents open and turn your head sideways at speed.

They are both very comfortable. No experience w, AGV.

AGV is super light..been using AGV since ever since.i havent try different helmet brand just AGV.i like the gp tech it doesnt buffet in the wind and it has the neck roll.

The problem with closeout helmets is they are usually close to or past the age you can use them on the track.

I don't think a helmet that's been sitting in a box degrades much, but you can't sell that theory to track organizations.

Since much of my riding is on the track I'd rather spend a bit more and get more useful time from my purchase.

I've got an AGV GP Tech, and I think it's pretty great... 

There are issues.  If your GPT fits well, putting it on is like trying to stick your head through a cervix.  So forget wearing headphones. 

Also, the cheek pads are restraint devices.  You will bite yourself, or at least have a sore mouth after a day of riding.

I don't like that the smallest opening in the visor is achieved by sliding the defogger all the way up, but whatever.

The helmet is heavier than my (Large) HJC AC12CF which weighed in at 1450g.  The AGV (large) was more like 1550g.  Still not heavy, I guess the remainder of the weight was shaved off my wallet.

Replacement visors START at $65 and go up from there.

There are great bits too.  The face is farther forward than say, the Shark helmets.  When I bought this, I was going to get a Shark RSR2, but (this is really embarrassing) my nose didn't fit in it.  I was furious.  I'm French damnit!!!  Other than the tightness, the AGV is a lot more like my HJC AC12CF in that there is plenty of space in front of my mouth.  And that's nice in a face plant.  Lemme tell you.

The shape is very aero, so you really don't experience much buffeting...  Or any.

The liner is very nice.  The liner quality is second only to that of my Shark RSi DTH.  Veddy velvety...  And thank God, since it fits soo tight.

Squids don't know what kinda helmet it is, so in its own way, it's inconspicuous.  Unless you ride with helmet whores (like me) or race fans (like me) or technophiles who prefer helmets that don't say Shoei or Arai on them (like me)...








Having said all this I feel inclined to say, while I have two AGV helmets, and only one HJC; which I've crashed in, and should have retired....  I tend to wear my HJC more often.  I love that helmet.  I know there are helmet owners who think that HJC isn't a good enough brand because they aren't the Japanese or Italian brands, but I got news for yah', Ben Spies disagrees. 

Have a look at the HJC FS-15 on www.webbikeworld.com and take note of the weight savings and design that went into that helmet.  You may be surprised at what you find.  And you may find yourself a little less broke when you buy your next lid.
