wheelies everywhere!!!

Giannis, have you done any mods to your scooter? That is a very nice setup you have there. If so I need some pointers on getting my Scarabeo done. Let's ride hooligan!

I thought for a moment about riding it Sunday over to ML with Stuart and Jeremy but I can't keep up with the 900ss very well on it.  ???

To those who doubt... ;D..."the scooter thing" goes like this,

1) It's much smaller than a moto so it's way more managable around the city.
2) By that I mean you can go as fast as a moto in the city but have only 1/4 of the weight so it feels like nothing.
3) Gas mileage is sic! Believe me gasoline is going up again, sometime.
4) Chicks dig 'em!
5) You can seat two comfortably WITH storage if you have a top box.
6) They are very cool.
7) Here's the main reason is that they are just so much fun to ride!

With the availablity of upgrades such as Perelli or Michelin tires, K&N air filters, performance mods that are so freakin cheap you won't believe your eyes it all adds up to a very fun and affordable ride. That's it. Oh, and if you have seen any of the photos of or were at the MvR this past weekend you would get a different perspective of two wheeled transportation...IMHO that is.

I have a few problems with scooters.

#1. Gear

Most scooter riders wear no gear at all.  They might not be as fast as a motorcycle, but 20 mph rash from a bicycle get off is make the beast with two backsing horrible.  I would be wearing the same gear that I do on the 1098

#2. Old People

We see quite a few older couples riding scooters around my neighborhood and the local shops.  I think that it is fantastic that they are on two wheels.  That is until grandma can't stop and blows through a stoplight.  I about plowed her with my F-250.

#3. Their gas mileage should be better.  The honda CRF230L  got over 100 real world miles per gallon in its test in one of the moto-mags.  It is also only $4500 and a hell of a lot of fun.  If I bought a scooter it would have to be all electric or maybe gas assist.  200 mpg should be the mimimum for scooters.  Scarabeo 200s are getting around 75 mpg.  Unacceptable.

yeah...how is it that my 996cc monster can get around 45mpg, but a tiny cc scooter gets ~70mpg.  what's the deal?

I totally agree with all of you. Gear is something everyone on two wheels must use. I ride with the same gear on my duc on the scooter sans the leather pants.

Old farts on two wheels is much like old farts in cars. Can't see! Specially behind those cheap cover-all goggle thingys they wear over their glasses!

Wholly agree about the milage thing too. I wish it were better than 70. I suppose it has something to do with fuel intake amount that a small cc motor has to do. I'd like to see 200 mpg too! Good points.

In all though if you abide by the gear mode the fun parts do outweigh the bad parts I think. I could be wrong.  [beer]
