I'm a picky SOB.. I haven't found anything yet that fits my requirements. 

1. Short inseam (I'm 5'5" and have short legs.)
2. "Cargo" style (I don't want pants that look like I'll be getting on a Gold Wing and riding for days on end or have crazy patterns.)
3. I do not need overpants. This is pure riding only with occasional stops to stores, establishments, etc. Right now I wear jeans. While it's nice, I need more protection.
4. No insulation or water resistance needed. I only ride when it's super nice out. For everything else I have my car.

I have thought about riding jeans but would much prefer textile.

I have the Alpinestars cargo pants. They're sort of a slim fit, but are otherwise not bad.

I think the only problem I have with them is the fact that they are cut for taller folks. If they had a "short" fit I think it would be perfect.

The Australian Draggin Jeans (not to be confused with the US Draggin Jeans company) has a wide variety of pants available-- from jeans to cargo pants to chinos. I have the jeans and chinos, and so far am impressed with them.

Are they worth the $205 shipped to the states?

The aussie dollar is roughly half the american dollar, but the exchange rate is whacked out right now. Maybe buy them new next year or used on ebay this year.

Might want to look at Hood Jeans in the UK too...good stuff, nice folks.

bmw summer pants bc they have a cargo pants look to them or bmw city pants they have some cargo pants look to them both fit me great in size small and i'm 5'6" with a short inseam.

Unfortunately I'm not a small size. I normally wear XL which equates to a long inseam if there isn't a "short" option.

I don't think the jeans are, no. The chinos, yes, because I've not seen anything else comparable. If you need to do business casual, the only alternative I can see is overpants, and I don't want to mess with that.

Ugh! Shopping for riding pants is hard.

Last resort for me would be to keep wearing my regular everyday jeans but supplement them with kevlar liner pants and strap on knee armor.

Update!

I just scored a brand new pair of BMW Summer pants (1st version). They were $120 USD. Not bad I suppose compared to the pricing for the Summer 2 pants which run about $200.

I'll let you know how they turn out. I MIGHT have to get them altered. I hope www.motostitch.com can work some magic. I've seen some good stuff she's turned out.

yeah don't worry the summer pants are easioly tailored by a good tailer all they have to do is move the velcro up the leg a little and refinish the bottom, i had the local tailor do it form me bc mine were about 2 inches too long, can't even tell that they were ever changed they look factory done.

told you those are the pants to get, do a search i did areveiw on them a few months back in teh gear section.

I wear rev'it mistal pants when it's hot and for a more casual look. For fun riding only, I wear my dainese delta preforated leather pants. To try to stay with the same brand because the components will work together (zippers to connect to each other, designed and sized as a set).

I am of similar proportions, and have good luck with the 'sliders' khaki's and cargo pants from http://www.compacc.com/p.cfm/c/1901002/p/16603  - They come in shorter inseams, I did have a pair cuffed a bit shorter.  Solid feeling kevlar protection, very comfortable.

Also the US draggin jeans fit well too for shorter legs.
