NYC traffic Tickets-

For some reason ive been able to beat 3/5 of my tickets. the only ones ive had to pay were both reduced, and the ones that ive won, always comes down to registration expiration. (one was parking in commercial zone only, my first ticket, and i forgot what the other one was, but they reduced it to 90 from $115 as well)

Since we dont have registration stickers on our bikes they tend to write it off as expired and if you just write a comment "Registration Not expired" it defaults the ticket, and the reason for dismissal becomes

"Due process defect pertaining to registration expiration date warrants dismissal of the summons as it fails to comply with Vehicle and Traffic Law 238. Dimissal is not on the merits of the case presented"

This was for a ticket where i parked on the sidewalk on the entrance of a main road that goes into my college. Thats $115 bucks BACK in my pocket, which means im spending it on a new pair of boots!

On Another note, if you use the online system @ http://nycserv.nyc.gov, and type in your ticket number, it will still allow you to pay the ticket even if the ticket is dimissed, not found, or any other way where you cannot find the actual ticket. Dont just pay it.

Hope this helps some people who wants to save some money. I plead not guilty via mail in. Just photocopied my registration.

btw, isn't the registration sticker the one that goes to the license plate ?  ... unless the plate is removed when parked.

Hmm...my mind always equates registration stickers as that thing on the left of the windshield, Maybe the cop just doesn't realize it because the bikes have it on the plate.

I've heard you can always buy a few of these off ebay and just throw them away after a few of the tickets go into collection.. just heard it tho...

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Ive heard the same thing.... but i think the policy here is, dont pay your ticket in 30 days, they take away your bike the next time they see it. and they arent kidding.

no, not 30 days.  it is delinquent after 30 days, but they don't tow until after 90 days.  BTDT.

all you need to do is look on the website to see if the ticket is in collection, or have a good memory of when you got the first ticket.

http://nycserv.nyc.gov/NYCServWeb/NYCSERVMain

type in the plate and state and it will tell you if its in collection

if so, then you will be towed.

don't worry about it esp if its a canadian plate.

i've just heard....

the funny part is if you have an ontario plate, it is abbreviated ON and the parking dimwits usually put OREGON.

Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

low probability with a parking drone. they just write down the tag and go.

now, if he's dumb enough to ride around with that tag, that's a diff story.

Pretty much, if you are in a reguarly patroled spot by traffic cops, they'll just punch in the plate, and color then it spits out a ticket on the printer. thats how i got my first parking ticket with my real florida license plate in NYC. Then i got tagged with no plate, and if it werent for me parking a few inches into the fire lane, he would of just left it, but he called in the tow truck. He was nice enough to give me two tickets and a nice yelling for why its important to not park in a firelane and let me ride away. I defeated the no tags, and got a reduction on the firelane.

Then i got hit with this one, the parking on sidewalk, and the bike next to me, with no tags, got it too, but without the no tags ticket. weird, but half the bikes there had no tags, and had their covers removed and a ticket placed on their triple... hmmm i wonder how those covers got removed.

I think the only possibility of it being towed is if they decide to check the vin number against the plate.

it's a myth that they cannot remove the cover.

PD can "reasonably" move any cover or obscuring item if it is to check tags or VIN.

i am not sure what the procedure is for covers that are locked down, like those that have a chain "draw string" in the bottom.
