I was looking at my delicious monster and i was wondering what this gray plastic eyesore is in between the frame above the oil cooler? And can i remove it or will zombies eat my face?

Don't do it or your face is done for!

No seriously, I'm not exactly sure but I believe they are little "pods" that take in "still air" lots of people take them off then stick the tubes up into the engine cavity somewhere. I've done it and haven't noticed any problems/changes.

Those are vent pods. Get rid of that shit.

TPO Parts even has a tube kit so you can reroute the hoses the hell away from there. Then again, if you want to keep them I suggest you get them painted the same color as the frame.  Your call.

At this point, I suspect you also still have your emissions canister. Search about that, then remove those parts from your bike as well.

so i pulled out the plastic and jammed the tubes up underneath the battery and zipped tied them in...that should be fine right?

Should work great. if your carbs stutter any, you know that the wind is creating pressure there, and you need to wiggle them somewhere else.

also, and again, if you feel like spending the few pennies to pick up the y-adapter and single hose line from TPO parts, this allows you to only really think about one hose end to hide. Not that you need to do this, mind you, but its there if you like.

Mine's been without those pods for about 9,000 mi, no problems once I got the hose situated out of the flow of the air. Since that has happened, I've also opened the air box, and still no ill effects. Ridden in the rain, no problems.
