Anyone out there familiar with plating...specifically titanium?  I've got a bunch of Ti hardware....and I'd like to to all match and accent the asthetics of the bike so I need to get it all plated.

Ti Ni would be cool, maybe a machinist out there knows something about Ti-ni plating tools and it would apply to Ti?

We have our tool steel sent to "Oerlikon balzers". Not sure if they do what you are looking for, If you go to their coating guide, they list the properties "colors". I do know that they do have a batch limit for price.

I've had anodizing done to titanium before.  Even had a friends bike decorated by Leni Fried (http://www.titaniumarts.com/) -- stunning what can be done.

You can turn Ti a rainbow of colors with a torch.

Even cheaper than the anodizer.

Not sure if that's what you're after though.

Its hard to control.  You also have a more limited range of colors. The plus side is you can take it off with 800 grit sandpaper.

Seems like the anod bath is the way to go.  Copper/gold color is what I'm after [thumbsup]

CAN Ti be plated??

I ran into Ti once... by accident... as soon as I hit it to activate (for Ni plate repair) it anodized.  confused the shit out of me, because the part was supposed to be NiCu lol

TAftonomos

Maybe plating was the wrong thing to call it.

I want to plate my frame, I want to anodize the bolts around it :D

I think Ti can be plated, but it's got to be nickel'd first IIRC.

from what I remember of electroplating, the method you use to activate it before copper flash would essentially anodize it, which is what happened to me. of course, that was assuming it was something else.

I suppose maybe if you hit it w/low enough voltage, you could get a base layer (usually copper) to stick. it's been a few years since I've done any of that

Ti's not gonna rust or corrode....you don't need to plate/anodize it

looks "Kustom" lol.

Not plating or coating the Ti to keep it from oxidizing....I'm doing it for the bling yo [thumbsup]
