Too All,

Fellow Ducati Monster  S4Rs owners:

I  bought an new 2007 Ducati Monster S4Rs from an local dealer and the bike only as 17 miles on the bike. The  bike sat in their warehouse while I made monthly pmts on the bike. Now, all an sudden the dealer calls me up to say while the were prepping the bike they seem to have found an puddle of oil under the bike and over all the engine that they NEVER saw before until now and they have to replace the valve cover gasket.
*** Should I be very alarmed on why this has happened?....an would there be any other problems that I should be thinking about.

I'm extremely concerned if I should request to get my money back from this company because I don't understand why all an sudden a bike with only 17 miles would cause this to happen.

While I don't own this bike, it sounds awfully strange to me that they "just now noticed" a puddle of oil under and oil all over the engine. Why would it be leaking if it hasn't been ridden?

Yes, I have to visit the dealer very first thing in the morning to follow up with questions that is why I posted on this forum I need some help.

That doesn't sound quite right to me.  DoubleEagle had an RS sitting in storage after dealer prep for quite some time without an issue.

FYI, Cross Posting your message in every board on the site isn't really the best method - Tech board would probably suffice ...

yes, sounds odd. however, if the bike is "new" then it should be under warranty, correct? make sure you get all the facts from the dealer.

as far as getting your money back.........you might have a better chance of getting them to assign your payments to a different bike.

You didn't say who the dealer is, but I don't think there are any really bad dealers in your area.

I know the testasretta motors have a fairly complex sealing method compared to the desmoquattro and the techs I know use a little sealer in the 'corners' or they leak. Maybe the factory forgot.

Give them a chance to fix it under warranty, ride, and be happy.

I went to the dealership first thing this morning to find out the real truth behind the matter.  I asked the manager if I could see where the bike was on the shop floor. I nearly fell over myself while looking at bike.

I found out after the fact of course that some tech took the bike out for an long distance joy ride than all an sudden the valve seals went this is what happens when an tech who wants to have some fun with other peoples bikes. I saw oil all over the bike it was an shame to see my brand new bike in this condition.
I also found out that he rode this bike extremely hard. Some people are telling me different reasons for the seals to go. I can't really pin point the reason one way or the other.

The dealer kept telling me over an over again its no big deal just an valve gasket gone bad! To see oil all over the bike really made me very upset plus they told me that they are going to clean the bike and make it shine like it was brand new. I'm almost at the point where I no longer want the bike. I just don't really know what else can go wrong. I get the feeling that there's something that they are not telling me.

I'll post the final outcome on this situation once I get more information from the dealership themselves.

I agree. Some might say this is overreacting, but he stole your bike and took it joyriding.

I had S4Rs and many other Ducatis and I only had that problem on SS that was bordering 20K miles on odo. without proper maintenance (guilty of young, poor and mechanical idiocy)
I am suspicious of your bikes odo. 17 miles   
Call consumer protection, DMV and Attorney General of your state and report tempering of odo by licensed dealer which would be criminal act (minor one) and definitely seek legal advise. Also keep Ducati North America and dealer know every step you are taking. Keep copy of EVERYTHING!

There are different opinions on the subject, but new bikes "should" be treated very differently the first couple of hundred miles If you treated it like the tech did - it could void the warranty

Your money (plus some?) back. Another bike. New dealer.

It sounds like you'll never be able to completely trust this bike or dealer.

that might be over reacting a bit.
start by trying to get your money back and/or putting it on another bike.
if that doesnt work, talk to a lawyer, as well as DNA.
accusing them of tampering with the ODO without more proof than this would in no way help the situation, especially as an opening bid to remedy the issue.

Hello, All

I was trying to get the North American Ducati telephone number.  I went to the website an was not able to send the information to the company so they could call me back when they have an chance. I have more problems with the bike.

I had to walk the bike home just a little over two miles and no cell phone on me to call for help.
