Jobs in the Fremont area?

Hi guys!
I may be starting up at Wyotech at the Fremont campus around mid-Oct '09. and I was wondering what the job situation looks like out that way?

I've pretty much been a jack of all trades my whole life, but most of the time I spent in Retail management.  But then again, I'd likely only be looking for a 1-2 yr span of staying where ever I ended up. Unless it was a job that I enjoyed.

I have been doing some research on the area, and was also wondering what an single fella, living in a studio or 1br place could expect in terms of monthly expenses (read: roof over head, gas in tank and cup o' noodle diet)

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, welcome! Make sure you look us up when you get here. We get together once a month for beers in SF, so keep watching this space. And post up when you want to ride!

Fremont ain't the cheapest, but it's not too expensive. I'll let people who've lived down there talk to the expenses.

Good luck finding something to do that's worth a damn...

how did one person put it when referring to the Oakland A's moving to Fremont... "[Fremont] is a parking lot with a mayor.."

That's it! Something to do *and* a job. He could run for mayor!
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Don't think there's much work in fremont, it's been about 9 years since I've found a job in fremont worth working and most people I know who live here commute somewhere else. Unless you live close to work AND school, I think you'll be better off living/working outside fremont and commuting to school. It is in a decent commuting location, San Jose is only about 15 miles away, Oakland 20 miles, and the Dumbarton bridge makes it a short commute to some spots on the peninsula. Not sure about rental prices currently, but it used to be more expensive than the surrounding areas. Last time I tried to rent a place on my own here was about 4 years ago, I was making $15/hour and I still couldn't get any place on my own. Seems like there are a few rooms for rent on craigslist if you dare go that route.  I've only seen one other monster riding around here (twice), it's red. If you run for mayor I'll, vote for you. Just a heads up: you'll be running against "the mayor," a bag lady who runs every term, and you should be embarrassed if she gets more votes than you.
