I had 3100+ posts and knew this was coming.  It took me 3 1/2 hours to delete 1200 of 'em so I figured 'F 'em'...  They can have my other 1900 posts because they're hollow...

They're hollow posts because I'm here and not there.   I also made my stand and said I wouldn't return....and I won't.

dang it, I had a whole crapload of posts too, wish I could delete some of em the older tech posts that I had up...  but can't log in, so nothing to do..

I reckon this will be my primary hangout, but that's based mostly on the people who have moved here. They're the ones who know lots more than I do and whom I've come to trust for information.

What's interesting is that I hardly see any obvious changes in the other board. Certainly nothing that would arouse my ire as it clearly has with others. Really, all that's apparent to me is that Titanium Members don't exist and that somehow I've become a Premium Member. (I also noted that supposedly one can still order a Titanium membership kit!) Perhaps it's because I'm running Firefox with Adblock Plus. I don't really care enough to check the other site out with a different browser setup, though.

Don't worry, they've shot themselves in the foot anyway. Like I said, all of the links to significant posts in the FAQ section are screwed up and just take you to the "home" page.

Yeah, if you set a bunch of settings in your profile, and have adblock turned on, you can hide a lot of the ads. But the page load on Safari is still way slower than the old board.

Good point on the page load time - it's awful, as is simply scrolling down a page. I guess there must be so many ads (even if my blocker prevents my seeing them) that it blows.

It really did make my heart ache, seriously, it was disturbing.

Ah well, it's just a domain name.

You can- here's the deal: find your post, click edit.  The text box appears but no buttons work; not save, go advanced, delete or cancel.  However, the buttons in color under the post work.  Click the same "edit" button at the bottom of the post and NOW a new window opens with a delete radio button at the top and editing box with full functions.

I suggest copy all - paste into a text doc so that you can derby your technical or helpful posts HERE - and replace the text on TOB with "edited by user to prevent advertising use" or something similar.

Also - about user pics - VBulletin is really powerful from the management standpoint, if they don't like your userpic, one click and your account doesn't display one.  Best to use one they have to look at and try to figure out rather than something in-their-faces and obvious.

The thing to remember about logging in is that it's not "the old board" - user names exist but have to be activated like it's a brand new board.  Also if you've ever changed user name you have to remember to request the password for the old one.

If you have a lot of writing on that board it's really, really important to go back in and cripple it; otherwise they win your work as a hyperlinked ad-fest, free content you made for their profit.

I can't encourage you guys enough to stick with the "re-registering" and password e-mail game, get back in there and re-claim your work.

Just because we *can* disable hyperlink ads on an individual basis doesn't mean every user/browser/casual visitor does.  Anything someone like me looks up on a whim "hmm, chain cleaning" is a pop-up advertising MESS - with your name attached as author.  ALSO they're playing games with the board settings; you have to really TRY to edit or delete posts, clicking the EDIT button twice because the first edit window doesn't work, and profiles reset to THEIR optimized default any time you open them - like "opt-in to our advertising" tickyboxes that reset to YES SPAM ME if you re-navigate to a window.

BTW: if you had your birthdate entered but set to private it's no longer private.  One of their "optimized" settings.  Good for marketing data, y'know.

They seem to have taken away the ability to edit posts. I was able to change a few last night but now I can't edit anything :bang

dolci

I was able to make some changes much earlier this morning (4 a.m.) but now cannot edit a thing that I have posted.
Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing; however, they can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Yeah.

Maybe it's just me but earlier today I was able to find a few email addresses from people's profiles but now they have been edited out.  Oh well.  There are a few people who will have to find this place on their own now. ;)

Another interesting thing.  If I try to log in to the DML immediately after surfing here it allows me to sign in but turns off my abilty to change a post or PM.  If I close my browser and then go to the DML directly or from a different website all seems fine.

Oh well.. Who cares!   r:e)
