Well I am no longer a crash virgin. After 35k of miles I had my first crash a few hours ago.

I was taking the CA-237 E on ramp towards Milpitas. See Map below.

There was a bus in front of me so I could not be going more than 15 to 20mph. This is a strange turn. I have taken this turn dozens of times before. I made my first turn in then straightened out and as I made my second turn in my front tire washed out on me. My basket blew up so I could not ride out of there. Dan the Man saved me once again  [thumbsup]

Dan and I dropped the bike of at Nichols. After looking at the bike in he parking lot it appears that I hit a patch of oil. There is oil residue on the side of the tire that washed out and in the treads. Also I notice I have some oil on my Pants as well.

I wont post up pics of the gear since the damage is hardly anything to mention. I got some minor frictions burns from the gear and I am sure I will be a little sore later today.

The frame sliders took the brunt of the crash. I need a new bar end, rear break lever and clutch basket. Minor scratch on the tank.

I am replaying the crash in my head since I am trying to figure out what I could have done differently if anything at all =(

Sorry to hear about this! It's hard to imagine what you could've done different because that seems like an odd place for a patch of oil to appear  ???  Usually oil is most visible at stoplights and can be avoided. Do you think this could've happened because it was dark out and you couldn't see the oil?

At least you're ok and that's the most important part  [thumbsup]  Good luck on getting the bike fixed fast, and hopefully its not too costly.

Sorry, dude! Glad to hear you came out rather unscathed. That's pretty impressive mileage before losing your virginity, though! I lost mine the 3rd day of owning my vintage scooter. I think I eeked out 2 miles on it. :'(

Damn Rob, sorry to hear that, but like everyone else, I'm glad you're OK and the bike isn't too bad.

From the map it looks like a very weird little oval/decreasing radius turn, so you were probably thinking about that more than the surface. Plus you said you were behind a bus, so you were prolly in the gunk before you'd have had enough time to react.

Kudos to Dan for the roadside assist - he must be trying to make up for his dirtbike karma!  ;D

I'm just happy to hear that you are ok Rob.
Bikes can be fixed quickly you can't.

Scary place to go down...At least on a mountain road you might not have a car in the vicinity.  On the freeway you're almost guaranteed to.  We had a good streak there, folks.  Glad everyone is OK.   [thumbsup]

Bummer, Rob.  Glad you're okay.  I've got some stock S4R bar ends as well, but I robbed them of the spacers that go onto the threads.  They're yours if you want 'em.

Hey Rob , just glad your OK. Looking at the front tire last night definitely looked as if he ran through some oil. There was some residue still left on the tire. I want to swing back by there today and see whats there, maybe morning commute cleaned it all up.

Oh not fair.  Glad you're ok though.
Now is your chance to have a talk with Cal Trans about their oil-slicks.

Good thing you got your allotted crash out of the way in good company.
I'm starting to understand why DTM wants to join the EMT,
sounds like it would be better for all of us ! [laugh]

Glad  you are not too serious hurt and hope the bike will not too much cash for parts replacement
It happens almost to every rider to use dark time for comute , oil ...rock .

Life is all about twisty turn , curvy corner , speed & smile
