I'm relatively new to this.  I've been a long time fan of Monsters & have been planning on getting one ever since I rode my brother-in-law's Monster 2 years ago.  So, when he was visiting us several weeks ago & crashed his monster, I bought it of him (cheap) cause he couldn't ride it home (& cause he's getting a 748 anyway).

So, I haven't been fixing it up over the past 3 - 4 weeks & still haventt riden it.  I just replaced the rear brake pedal, right rearset, right pegs, right mirror, right blinkers etc.  (Guess which side it fell on...)

So, I am almost done (needs a rear tire too).  but I just noticed that my throttle wont roll back on its own???  if i roll it fully open it'll stay there and wont move back..

What should I be looking for?

What model / year?

The standards to look for is binding cables, if you remove them from the carbs/throttle bodies does the grip turn easily?

Can the assembly at the CB/TB turn and return correctly with cables off?

Cables seem fine.  Can't return with cables off.  Looks like it might be a result of a slightly bent handlebar.  I was planning on replacing the handlebar next weekend anyway.  We'll see if that does it...

could be as simple as a missing washer at the grip / housing or grip is hanging over catching the bars not letting it roll freely.

or replace the bars which ever's easiest

make sure the cables aren't being pinched when you tighten the throttle grip together again too.  It's a very common issue to have the cables slightly off the little plastic guide inside the grip, which slows or stops the throttle

just rebuild it and inspect as you go along. there might just be some dirt jammed in there. You can use bicycle lube and just drip it down the sleeve of the cable if thats whats causing it. I had a throttle that would go back very slowly, it was a combination of things bent bar, sand, old cable. etc.

I've just had a similar problem on my 03 S4.

The grip was working its way off the bar and was rubbing against the bar end weight.

Pushed it back on and alls well.

+++++ 1 ..! check that out. I had the same problem some time ago. Just loos the weight a little to make sure..!

That's quite likely if it went down on the right - I've seen it happen a few times...

You guys rock.  I just loosened my Napoleon Bar end Mirrors & it now returns.  Where my grip is roughed up from the fall it is rubbing on my bar end mirrors.

I'm still replacing the bars though...  I want everything perfect!
