Trackday on June 27th w/ Ridesmart

We are in agreement for certain. Just didn't want to get on with a bunch of guys who just plain don't care what happens.

I may take the Level 2 session on my first trackday out with Ridesmart just to be on the safer side. But there in lies the conundrum. Level 2 probably has the most varied skill level. I'd say I'm at the top of the skill level of Group 2, but not as fast as group 3/4.

I think there is a difference between skill and being fast on a track. Having the skills is one thing, but having the guts/detemination/will to push the envelope in order to be fast is another. I don't have the desire to race big bikes right now so I'm slightly lacking in the 'will to push' area. Doesn't mean I can't go fast, I'm just not as willing to risk injury/bike repair as someone who is practicing for racing.

Hope that makes sense.

I would always prefer to be in Level 3/4 as long as I am running fast enough where I don't get lapped by the entire field (a few riders will always be faster and I'll see them at least once during a session).  Level 2 has too many people with fast bikes and not enough cornering skill so for people like me on a slow bike (SV), they'll blow by on the straight and then park it on corner entry.  In Level 3/4, most people will be as fast or faster in the turns so if they pass me on the straight, I won't see them again since they'll be faster in the corners also.

All good stuff. I'll see what I feel like In August.

Can't believe you're not going...should be a fun track to learn.  I will be at ECR on 6/28 so if you'd rather do that, you and your friend (provided he/she has previous track experience) can be my guest. It's a member day though so no vendor support (or corner workers for that matter).

ya he's experienced, I can run it by him and see what he says... how much does it cost per guest?

$150 for the day.  If you have not been to a member day, it is very different from a trackday.  No corner workers, no ambulance, no vendors. There is an EMT on site but people are expected to be courteous and to ride within their limits.  Nice thing is that everybody hangs out and since there are only around 8-10 bikes on a 2.5 mile track, you won't feel crowded. 30 minute sessions - usually get around 7 or so for the day (and more if the cars aren't out).

I'm going to be there with Ty Howard taking some private instruction with one of my friends along with one of the guys that will be in my Endurance team next year.  All cool guys...

but at the last AMS trackday in late May, I got hit by a 1098 attempting a pass from my blindside at Buzzard's neck in Cresson as I was doing a slow lap following another rider to give them feedback.

Feedback? As in being aware of other bikes on the track and staying out of the way of faster riders on "a slow lap"? That kind of feedback?

Yeah..that's right.  It's the bike in front's responsibility to figure out other bikes are behind them (read the sarcasm in case you missed it).

When I saw you at Motopia, I could see where you were going making hints that I should be 'listening' for the other bikes, or knowing someone is behind me.  Don't know what tracks you ride or who has been teaching you that stuff but the rules are plain and simple - if you attempt a pass, it is the rider attempting the pass to make sure they do it safely....in any motorcycle traack event.  In racing, it gets tighter because everyone is aware that every bike out there is trying to pass. If you don't know how...don't pass or use your 'faster' bike and just power out of the next long straight. Trackdays are NOT about racing.

EDIT: By the way, I was following another rider to figure out why the other rider was still having difficulty getting comfortable around the track right after since before that, we were just discussing her riding. That's the feedback.  ;)

Had a great half-day at ECR today even though temperatures were up there!  Did 4 sessions and I felt like I had run all day!

I was thinking about cancelling myself.  I havent done MSR-C clockwise before but I think I'm going to try it out.   We'll see how it goes.

Carlo, the only person I was expecting behind me was Derrick with the camera bike to provide the feedback.  I appreciate your efforts, but leave me out of this discussion please  ;)

No problem. Edits made.  Really has nothing to do about passing anyway.

So, let me get this straight....Carlo, Lisa and Scott were all on the track at the same time.  Carlo was discussing with Lisa prior to the session about her comfort on the track and decided to ride behind her to see where she was having the issue.  (I'm assuming he took it upon himself to help her out)  So out of the 3 riders in mention, we all know the fastest and most experienced rider was Carlo.....So, why is there even discussion here?  Carlo was being nice, maybe because there was a lack of AMS instructors there?  I don't know, that's only a guess...I heard some of the AMS guys left after the 1st session... Everyone here knows a trackday is not a race. You should only pass if you can do so safely and under control in the corner. The rider in front always has the line that he/she so chooses and the riders behind have to adjust accordingly. The front rider should never have to "listen" for a rider behind them....LMFAO!!! that was actually funny!  So Scott rams Carlo, and there are people actually saying that Carlo should have listened for him and adjusted his line to make room for for a rider that was making a pass in an unsafe and uncontrolled way? What the make the beast with two backs is that all about?  Carlo, I'm sorry to hear about the wreck....  really sorry.  This is just a shame that people are not apologizing..... ???
