I understand that. I am always looking for some new bike nights. Where are the meets?

Sorry this was a GTR thing. I did drive by the Amsterdam around 11 but no bikes out front so I didn't stop.

I will be out of town next week, but will be back for this event again. It is always a great time, good people and good beer.
Old enough to know better but just don't care!

Any takers tonight? Tomorrow is my last day of work before vacation week next week so I'm priming myself tonight with some beers and cigars.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

My first visit.  Enjoyed meeting Bill, Bob, Jeff, Patrick, Red, and a couple of others that I can't remember their names.  Good mix of a crowd.  It is still hot at 9:30 pm.

sorry I couldn't make it but somehow my rear axle bolt was coming loose...glad I caught it before I hit the tollway and did a face plant.

An explaination for those who were there....

I’d like to say it’s out of the goodness of my heart and the hope for mankind in this world that I attempt to make contact with strangers. Yes, it was of my own hand that I made the acquaintance of one Mr. Cobb Ryan today. As confident I am in my assessment of character for my fellow man I was dead right on this from the git go. Cobb had a peculiar air about him. One of a protected scholarly demeanor type that is easy to engage. True to my hope I sought after the ridiculous in Cobb, that he might actually BE scholarly. Learned in one topic does not make the man though. I knew he was homeless the second I laid eyes on him sitting at the end of the bar nursing a warm and smoking a cigarette at the City Tavern this noon but when the barmaid told me it was HE in fact whom had just bought the ’06 Ducati Paul Smart 1000 LE parked at the front I had to approach. Sight alone had convinced me at first but as I sat down next to him the distinct vintage aroma of the unclean confirmed my homeless hypothesis about Cobb.
As we sat out on the sidewalk talking I was intrigued picking his mind for anything I could use to cause his cover to be blown. I thought racing history might work. He passed every attempt on my part to cross him up on trivial items the unknowing would not have been privy to. To my surprise he passed with flying colors. Story after story of Mike (The Bike) Hailwood spewed forth.  It wasn’t until I had to go back to work that the cover was blown. Knowing that his only chance to play me was slipping away he centered in for the kill. I’ve left my funds at the Doctor friend of mine’s home whom I’m staying with in the Lakewood district, uh, could you loan me some money? I looked him in the eyes and said, ‘sure friend, the stories were worth the price’.
As I was about to leave I thought to myself I can’t just leave this treasure here because if I told my Cobb Ryan story to you guys you surely would have thought I was in the sun too long this past weekend. I would certainly have to show you all this fellow. So I thought let’s see if he can meander his way down to The Amsterdam Bar later tonight. Of course the money I gave him would get him down there he said and we would have a few beers and talk about buying another Paul Smart and not the one that was  parked in front of the City Tavern.
So, the next step after tonight’s episode is how is he going to get out of meeting up with me in order to actually purchase the PS LE. I think I know the ending of this story.

Thanks to all who put up with Cobb tonight. That was worth coimng down to see all in of itself. What a hoot. Great  to see Svoloch tonight. It's been like forever since we talked. Let's ride those trip 9's man! Rick glad to meet you finally. G-man, always a pleasure to  get together with you albeit a little short of time tonight for conversation. Donald, so glad you came. And thanks for doing what you did with our guest. Another very interesting night again. Have a great holiday y'all!  [beer]

[beer] Great seeing everyone last night !  Cobb was a trip ! The only error in his stories that I was aware of while talking to him was Hailwood's death - Cobb said cancer but I knew it was a tragic auto accident in England ( also killed his daughter).  Who knows - could be real thing but confused about some stuff or just a super smart pretender.
I thought his aroma was because he was like an old school European dude - where baths are not taken daily.  Still tons of fun listening to the guy & now I'm inspired to read a bio of Hailwood - did not know he pulled a competitor from a flaming F1 racer at his own peril !

Red, Rick, George, Patrick - great to see y'all - I think periodic attendence at Euro night is now mandatory - & the Guinness was cheap !  [drink]

I always enjoy my time at the Amsterdam. I'll do my best to be in attendance next go around (with a cigar).

Yep, Mike the Bike died when his car struck a lorry while on a fish and chips run with his daughter. Rumor is he skidded the car so the impact was on his side and not his daughter's in an effort to save her life. Sadly to no avail. :'(
