I'v been riding for a short time, road bikes that is.  I ride a M1100 and need a good pair of boots, I have read some of the forum threads but am still not sure what to get.

I only ride on weekends, short day trips and try avoid any rain if possible, should I be looking at shoes, 3/4 boots or full boots. I'm obviously looking for good protection and something comfortable I can wear when off the bike when taking a break from riding on the trip if that makes sense.

I will be doing a track day in a few months when my skill level is better, so would like to be able to wear the boots then, as well as on my normal weekend rides which are +- 200km at most.

Any suggestions and reasons would be great with perhaps a link if possible, I realize boots can be up there price wise but would rather spend once.

If you are primarily joy riding I'd consider full boots.
Most brands mentioned here will protect well.
I primarily commute and often stroll around doing errands and I enjoy the convenience of
3/4 Sidi Streeburner. Vent well, high enough to keep the draft outta my legs.
Nobody seems to offer such a boot with a secure feeling top closure, otherwise feels secure.

They look good, what sort of ankle protection do they give? do you feel safe in them as far as protection goes?

I have a pair of Sidi Vertebra II boots that are 9 years old.

They're holding up great, and I've crashed in them 4 times with no foot or ankle injuries.

They're comfortable both on and off the bike, and will be replaced with another pair of Sidis when it's time.

I have many different brands of race boots that I feel the necessity to wear for their full Foot and Ankle security.

One pair that is comfortable on and off the bike and has not the greatest amount of security but are not twice the money .

Those boots are Sidi B-2s.

They sell size 14s , that's one reason I have a pair of them.

They typically sell for $235.

They are easy on and easy off.

They have a toe slider and other armored areas especially in the Ankle area.

They are a nice pair of race style boots that are easy on your feet and wallet.

i ride sidi vertigo corsas 99% of the time. super comfortable, and they feel safe (havent tried crash readiness yet, knock on wood)

they can be had at 300 these days since the vertices are out. id reccomend the vertigo regular model, just because the xtra strap on the corsa is a huge pain in the ass. however they do have more ankle protection

so pick your poison i guess! pumas look very nice, but too hard to get on and off if you ask me.
go with a full boot if you might track.

have a pair of alpinestars short boots ( short like streetburner no where neer as badass ) then i got a pair of sidi vertigo corsa airs and wow what a boot drop the coin on Sidi absolutely worth it

Crutches are of the devil, and not riding because you have a broke foot/ankle is the suck.

+11ty billion +1 on full boots, but theres racey full boots, touring full boots, SM-X full boots. etc. id go for the SM-X ones. Comfortable and not restricting.

After literally days of reading I'v decided to go for the Sidi Vertigo Corsa's, they seem to be very popular and most importantly comfortable and safe.

Thanks you have all been very helpful, now just need to decide on riding pants 

i would hate to turn you away from such a fabulous boot as the vertigo corsa


BUT

if the vertigo regulars are still 100+ cheaper, id get the vertigos, and then shell another 35 bucks for the ceramic toe sliders (which just bolt on)

the strap accross the middle of the foot takes too long to get on and off, and if it werent there, those boots would just fly on and off your feet *they are tight so you feel like you are in control+safe but the zipper goes the whole way to the sole so its very very easy to slide in and out

the corsa strap covers the zipper so you cant get the boots off without taking it off the whole way.

either way you will be terribly happy. ive never heard of someone disliking riding in sidis

Congrats on your decision. You will never want to ride without them on once they are broken in.
