Hello all, I'm still thinking of going to the Ducati in the Rockies event http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=17728.0. It's been on my mind since early this year to make this ride and I feel drawn to experience this weekend of revelry with other Ducatisti from around the country.

Here's the deal. I live in Fort Worth, Texas and am thinking if I go I'm planning on taking my new 3 bike trailer pulled behind my 'vintage' 1978 24' Class C RV. Hey, it's only got 27,800 miles with brand new tires on it! I can take two other people and their bikes and gear which will cut down on my cost of gas. Planning on staying in hotels along the way. So, unless someone has a bigger RV or a 3/4 ton or better truck and would like to pull my trailer this is the plan. I would plan on taking off early on Wednesday morning and driving till dark, getting a room and on to Ouray the next day. If anyone is interested please contact me by PM, I'll give you my cell phone number and we'll talk about about it. It will take at least two days up and two days back to DitR. My email is ducati8v@gmail.com if interested. Thanks. RED

Here's some of the links to this event:

Charlie - you might want to post your departure/return dates/times.  And what kind of expense amounts each person might be looking at.  Sounds interesting.

G-man, that is exactly what I'm doing at the moment in fact! HA! What timing.  [thumbsup]

This could change but here's the tentative itenarary:

The dates from what I can tell are August 7th through the 11th. I am not sure at this juncture what activities and rides are planned but I will get that info today and relay any info gleaned from the SoCo peoples. At this time Slag has stepped up to offer his truck which seats 4 which means that we can effectively fit 4-5 bikes. The plan is to take off either late Wednesday night or very early Thursday and drive straight through (21 hr. drive) to Ouray, Colorado. Grab some sleep and bite of breakfast and  hit the roads. At this time it is not decided when to leave either Monday night or Tuesday sometime. The plan is to stay at the KOA campground cabins in Ouray ($150/night split 4 ways) if available. I figure at least 4 nights. Everyone will be responsible for the their own food or we may cook at the cabin I don't know. If you are interested just let me know.

Oh, and to get you primed watch some vids on Youtube about riding the million dollar highway. Wow!

would love to do it. count me in.

If you need a bigger pull vehicle I could get this baby for the week
GMC TOPKICK C4500
black ,4 door crew cab, leather interior, air ride seats , reese 30k 5th wheel, tool box with aux fuel tank-50 gallons, sun visor, all LED lights, and kicker of a video system.

It gets 12+ mpg no mater what it is pulling or how hard it it pushed.
Old enough to know better but just don't care!

still not sure if the GMC is going to be available but I know we can use my SUV. It loves the mountains and has a 8000 lb pull ability. I doubt it can pull a 30 foot trailer with all you plan on taking however.

I have to say that somehow things do turn out for the best if you let them. I had no idea this trip would be so much fun. Plans changed at the last moment and I did not take my RV and trailer but chose to drive up with my son in the Commander. We caravaned with Slag and Aerogeek with Swampduc, El Matador and DesmoLu in another vehicle bringing up the rear. We drove all night only taking an hour's rest at a truck stop in Las Cruces, NM. Pulled into Ouray, Colorado @ 10am.

After a much-needed night's rest it was off to Jeep trails. Yep, it turned out to be a wheeling trip. At the last minute my brother decided he and his wife, daughter and daughter's friend would pull their travel trailer and drive his Rubicon Jeep all the way up too. We did Poughkeepsie Gulch/Wall-Hurricane Pass/California Pass down into Animas Forks finally ending up in Silverton and back to Ouray on 550 the first day. Second day they did Black Bear Pass from 550 over to Telluride down the switchbacks while my son and I went 'mining'. We ended up the 4x4 adventure by going up Imogene Pass in a Polaris RZR 800 ATV and summiting Telluride Peak (13,509 ft.) and smoking a cigar near Tomboy trail overlooking the majesty of the Rockies.
I have linked to my photo albumn here http://www.flickr.com/photos/17337514@N04/sets/72157621903187609/ so you all can see the pics. I will load some videos asap too.

As it turned out one of the New Mexico riders took a turn too deep and lowsided. His guardian Angel was with him because he was caught by some trees and bushes which saved him from plummeting another 200' or so down the cliff as his bike did. He was ok after a hospital check out. A very beautiful place but I do not think I'd like to have ridden there. I'll post more later.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.
