Konichiwa,

I just wanted to start something where I can keep track of questions and dates for a couple week homecoming on my way to Africa. I hope you don't mind.

Question:

1. I'm looking for a hotel midweek in SF. Some googling came across the trendy "Hotel Union Square." It looks like a fun little place. And, very centrally located to play tourist (I'm bringing the g/f from Japan for a week of my stay). Anyone heard anything about it or recommend a hotel in the same general "tourist" vicinity? I'm used to SF from growing up there. It'll still be nice to play tourist too.

Dates:
9/24 - Geist (no uniform this time).

If anyone has any other ideas/recommendations (already have a plan for the usual tourist stuff - Alcatraz, top of the GGB, Wharf, etc.) , I'm all ears. I'll be in the E. Bay most of the time. But, will be venturing to SF and Oakland to show ol' girl around.

You might check out the Hotel Palomar, nice little boutique place.

Yelp is a decent resource for hotel reviews.

You may want  check out the Ferry building. Its like a Foodies paradise.

If you want some kick ass Omakase I know a great place. The chef is a bit of a Sushi Nazi till you get to know him but after that he is is pretty nice =) But on the other hand you prob have great sushi all the time.

Monterey is really nice if your looking to take a drive out of the city. They have a really nice Aquarium there. The SF one is way crowded still and I heard mixed reviews about it. The Aquarium on the Wharf is a rip off... Avoid it.

Tomales Bay has some nice twisties and there are e a few good Oysters Farms out that way. Cool place to hang out drink and have a BBQ.

It's a block from my house, and you're better off spending the time getting to Marin.

Although the fact that it's a mere 150 ft of twisties hasn't stopped them from shooting not one, not two, but three Subaru commercials featuring the "glory" of Vermont St.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

It's not worth it from a motorcycle perspective, but it's certainly worth it if you're here during Bring Your Own Big Wheel :)
