I'll be changing over to Tassie plates soon, so I need to get a roadworthy.
I was at the bike shop in Lonnie the other day to make some enquiries. It seems the only issues I have, are a blown tail light, and the side stand switch.

At the moment my cut off switch is disabled (it was like that when I got it from the dealer ???)

I was reading in the general tech section about a mod for this. You can wire in a diode so the bike will run with the stand down, but the moment it is put in gear, then engine will die.   http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=280.0
Will this satisfy Australian road rules? Or more specifically Tassie rules?

If it's easier I'll just wire it up how it should be...

thats a new one i never heard that and ive had afew bikes put over the pitts and they never checked my side stand but i ve got the diodes if you want to do that mod the main thing will be your tail chop, exhaust ,lights and make sure theres no fluid leaks and your vin code is easy to read on the engine and frame  [thumbsup] , theres a bloke out at perth thats easy going  ;)

Yellow Meanie

I asked about the chop, they said it was fine. The bloke even had a look and said "yeah, no worries"  ;D
He heard how loud the pipes are, that didn't seem to worry him either.

Maybe he was expecting me to book it in to have the switch fixed there. [laugh]

Here is the wire from the side stand:

It looks like the white and green wires have been "spliced" together. If I separate these two, will the switch then work as it should?

brimo

yes more than likely, try it, you won't break anything.

thats all right for them to say that they dont do the roadworthy speak to some one that does  [thumbsup]

Yellow Meanie

I tried it - it works ;D

Bazz - I thought they did do the roadworthy's there ??? At the Duc shop in Launnie?
Do they take the bike somewhere else to get it checked?

bazz20

they can only do new bikes , unless things have changed  [thumbsup]

techno

Hey Meanie,

There are a few places that can do it. I've had two bikes inspected including the monster and had no real problems. They just check the number match, indicators and light, no oil leaks etc and thats about it.

Both on mine were done at Forestry Tas. They have a garage and I had a friend who worked there at the time. Its down behind Freedom Furniture in Hbt.

Call me and I'll arrange it if you haven't done it by now.

Hey Techno you are a smart man.  [thumbsup]

Had an accident in Tasmania? - www.tas-compo-law.com.au

bazz20

another thing dave you have only 30 days to change you rego with a out of state registered vehicle after that if you get pulled up they will fine you for driving an unregistered vehicle and no maib if you have an accident cheers  bazz

Yellow Meanie

Thanks Techno, I'll see if I can get it done here up in Launnie this week. If not, I'll let you know.

Bazz, as I understand the rules, you have 3 months to change registration after moving interstate. Then, basically you are driving an un-registered vehicle, and have no insurance.
After getting a roadworthy inspection, it is then valid for 30 days. If it expires, you need to get another inspection.

As I haven't officially moved to Tassie yet, I'm still a Queenslander.
Of course, when the house settles, I will officially become Tasmanian. Then I will need to change rego.

...now waiting for two headed Tasmanian jokes [laugh] [popcorn]
