Took a 180 mile cruise yesterday which involved lots of country roads which was a blast. Trying to get as much seat time on the bike before the riding season here goes to poop (about another month)..On the way home I took the tollway straight back into the city and got a chance to see where my bike "likes" to cruise at.
The spot where the bike seemed the most comftable at was doing 80mph in 6th gear @ 5,000RPM's. I thouht the bike would like to cruise at a higher speed but who knows. For the record the bike is a 07 S2R1K and is basically stock besides a 14T front sprocket and a set of BoomTubes...
Just wondering if the above is normal, or better yet what your guys bikes like to "cruise" at..
I ask because 95% of my riding is in the city, and I never get to really run the bike like I did yesterday.

90mph at 6th gear around 5000rpm, it defintely bogged when i gunned it, i had to drop to 5th if i wanted to catch up to my friends F2i. it yeilds me over 55mpg.

did that for a good 300miles too. so id say you are pretty much in the norm with a 14t
2006 Ducati S2R1100 Yea.... stunttin like my daddy CHROMED OUT 1100!!!!

My 08' does it exactely the same 80mph at 5k rpm 6th gear. still has plenty of passing power if needed and is very easy to maintain
08' S2R 1K   That was close  damn near lost a $400 hand cart.

My black 08 S2R1K does about the same with full Arrows and a FatDuc.  I'm sure if it were any other color, it would be a few MPH slower  ;D  You have a beautiful bike--what do you use to make it so shiny?
2008 S2R 1k.  Black.  Pazzo Levers, 14 t front sprocket, CRG Hindsight LS mirrors, Cycle Cat Frame Sliders,  Oberon open clutch cover and gold/black EVR pressure plate, full Arrow exhaust with reflashed and mapped ECU, tail chop with gold Rizoma Avio 21 turn signals, Ohlins rear shock and Rizoma fluid reservoirs.

Glad to hear I am in the "norm" when it comes to my speed vs. RPM's.
Thanks for the input ;D

Thanks for the kind words.
I am kinda anal when it comes to paint, so I make sure to wipe down the tank/cowl/wheels/etc every time I park the bike and before each ride with
Mothers spray wax/quick detailer and a microfiber cloth. S100 also makes a good "quickwax" product as well. When I really get bored I break out the claybar for the painted bits on the bike and then the caranuba wax.. [thumbsup]

it's the 14t. i thought it seemed "bad" too... then i realized that i still had plenty of motor left even in FOURTH.

I hear ya.
Even while crusing at 80 I still had some power to pass/change lanes/etc..
Need to wear earplugs next time (those BoomTubes at tollway speed are L O U D  [thumbsup])...

14T front here in S2R1k. Only use 6th once I'm up to 80 when its at 5k where power starts to get nice

:o :o :o :o  Holly Crap that's nice!!  Same direction I am heading with my S2R 1000.  Tell me, did you paint your forks and triples or anondize?  I'm guessing they are painted, good job.  DIY or pro paint?

Oh and the rear shock, Matris??

Could you post up a few more pics or some closeups?  TIA!

numbskull

88 mph in 6th @ 5000rpm on my 07 S2R1K with full Termis. So adjusting the generous speedometer reading, it's probably really going 80.

Use that to find out how fast you are really going with your gearing setup.

with 14T front, at 5000 RPM, i'm doing 79.7. It indicates 80ish on speedo, so I'd say the speedo is pretty accurate.

The swingarm, forks, stock triples, stock controls, stock spring, stock pressure plate, and other bits were all powdercoated by my buddy Sean over @

His low gloss satin black matched the stock frame pretty darn close. I wanted everything I coated to flow together on the bike. Not a fan of clearly being able to see where people modified bikes, as I would rather look at the entire bike as a whole...
Here's the best pics I currently have of the bike (besides the ones above):

Still need to take the time and black out the oil cooler and some other little things but I have been too busy riding it  [thumbsup]

BOMB  [thumbsup]

BTW - the bike (my M1000) will do at least 120 indicated, so there are no excuses for having to downshift   ;)
