Damn, I couldn't retract that one quick enough.

I remembered from talking with co-worker who was just here from the UK (he used to have an RC8 but sold it) that noise on exhaust over there is VERY restrictive.

yeah, UK and Euro noise regs are pretty strong, which is why you'll find plenty of exhausts sold with a removable noise damper so it can be sold as street legal. 

my Sparks system for the S2R came with them, just a single set screw and they come right out.

In many other countries, UK included, they're much more restrictive. There are plenty of laws on the books in the states, but they aren't often enforced.

My staintune's came with a removable baffle too.

damn, the construction on those were top notch.

It's really funny all that UK/Euro BS... Like the 675.. it has an air intake baffle and an exhaust baffle that are closed until you reach a certain RPM... what RPM is that you might ask, well it just so HAPPENS to be the RPM that they do their noise and horse power testing standards to see if the bike complies with the law. So yeah after 4,000 rpms everything opens up and the bike runs like a raped ape.

The exhaust baffle is there to "help low end torque" which it does but not enough to keep it the second you are able to remove it from the system.

I could be totally wrong, but I think the old Yamaha EXUP worked on the same principle.  Apparently it actually works.

yeah, plenty of bikes have this setup.. i remember reading in Superbike (UK) about a Harley () that had the same setup..
