Thanks for the advice, Dusty. Having spent the past few months commuting a lot in the New York-Long Island traffic, I have developed a heightened awareness of cars and the people who operate them.
Nobody said that I did. Everyone says that I would.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I am adding this here.

I've been coming to ABQ for 12 years with Barbara. Her son moved here in the mid-80's and it's here chance to see her grandchildren. 5 yrs ago she decided to buy a house. So, we come out here every few months for a few weeks at a time. I've gotten very used to the life-style here.

The one thing I miss about the East Coast is the salt water. Long Island lies between the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound. I own an old sailboat (1975 Pearson 26) and that is my #1 escape in the summer months. Here are two pix I snapped with my cellphone a few weeks ago while sitting on the boat at its mooring.

Call it a bad south west perception, I wouldn't have expected something that beautiful to have been taken in NY.

The Manhattan skyline is lurking behind the land in the left background of the sunset photo.

We don't even HAVE to know what it says.  It's hilarious!!!  But if anyone knows, it would be cool to find out.   ;D

According to Babelfish, it translates to "Not even now it is deflated that pompous"...which would probably come out somewhere close to "Even crashing won't deflate that pompous ego"

Yeah I did an online translation too and wasn't sure exactly what to make of even the translation so that sounds about right. :)

Ok, here are some pics of the other morning when we watched some of the balloons:

Cheers!

Doe and KB enjoying the great weather

We will try for more balloons throughout the week too.  Those of us who have and still live here know it is hit or miss on the weather so we will see how that goes.   :)

Looks like real good times, had a minimal Balloon Fest in Springs this year due to weather, but always a cool event, thanks for the pics, did they have a Balloon Glow at dusk ?

They did that night and fireworks.  The next night was cancelled however and so was the annual gas balloon race which has never happened in the history of the balloon fiesta.  Also, some of the special shaped balloons the were "stuck" in China are now on their way "home".  Looking forward to more of the show as the week progresses.  We will post up shots if we get some good ones and encourage any other members here in Albuquerque to do the same.  [popcorn]   ;D

Just out of curiosity, have you ever been to New York? I always get the impression that people from outside the area imagine that it's all New York City. It's actually more varied than that topographically: There's the low-lying ocean coast of Long Island, the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains, the Finger Lakes, the Hudson River Valley.

My first ride on my '97 Monster was 250 miles from Ithaca back to Long Island, most of it along State Road 17 (America's Most Scenic Highway a few decades ago). As HunkyPunk remarked to me, that is a beautiful ride.

Just sayin'...

I agree nicrovsato.  I have family out in Sag Harbor....wow...stunning.  Great area
If you love your bike, set it free.
If it comes back to you, you've
probably high-sided.

Haven't been back east in a couple years, but I have always enjoyed the foliage this time of year.  Just incredible.  I seems like winter is coming early this year though.  I just heard that Loveland ski area has opened already and it is the earliest in it has done so 40 years.  :o

I see another ski/snowboarding trip in our future.   8)
