So I'm new to the area and I was thinking of parking my bike outside overnight. Well, someone stole my wifes' bicycle last night and I'm rethinking. What's the haps with people parking Ducait's outside? Any do it? I live in downtown San Diego.

Holla!

I park in a garage normally but was trying to avoid paying monthly for the spot. I live in the Gas lamp on Fourth.

anything other than a private garage is an invitation to steal your bike.

i had a motorcycle stolen from a shared, gated apartment parking garage 6 years ago.

when i moved, i made sure i had a private garage.

Now that I think about it I'll just bump up the $75 monthly parking for peace of mind.  8)

Did they steal your bike from the garage?

There were 3 bikes all stolen at once from a gated community I was living in, but fortunately, mine was in a private garage.  Someone just came with a large trailer or box truck one night, loaded them all up, and took off.  This was in a DC suburb.  They left the FZ1 that had steel treadplate applique on the frame.  [laugh]

Gaslamp on 4th? Bad idea to park it outside. Invitation for a bunch of drunken idiots to make the beast with two backs with your bike...

Exactly why I don't want to park it out. The bicycle stolen was a wake up.  [beer]

yea there is no way i would leave my bike parked in the gaslamp, too many drunks. 75 doesnt seem bad for a place off the street. how secure is it?

Very secure. Pass key and 24 hour security. Coming from the midwest we have our own way of securing things but security will do.  [popcorn]

Underground parking garages are worse than the street when it comes to theft.  It may protect it from vandals and drunks but they provide a secure haven for the professional thieves to cut your locks and load the bike up without being seen by the public.  I have had three motorcycles stolen from an underground garage with security guards and passkey access right in Coronado.  Roll the bike in the elevator and bring it into the apartment.

tangueroHondo

Go ahead and park it outside...and sit in a darkened upstairs window with a sniper rifle.
