That was a total publicity stunt. The kid was hiding in the attic the whole time and was never on the balloon.
In fact this family is a bit weird, they chase storms, have appeared on reality shows, and generally seek publicity.
I wonder if they'll have to pay for all the costs for the rescue attempts.
