Ducati dealer is like a strip club!

So, I headed up to BCM yesterday to pick up a Pit Bull stand. It was a really lovely day and there were tons of sweet bikes inside and out. I spent a little time looking at the white 696 they have. I must say there are a lot of things to like about it. At least in terms of appearances, it was a pleasant surprise. Can't say I'm likely ever to get used to that headlight, though. Miles offered me a test-ride which I felt it prudent to turn down in case I liked it enough to buy, which seemed surprisingly possible.

They also had a pair of Desmosedicis. What incredibly hideous bikes those were  - really ugly, ungainly, and repellent. There's no way I would ever want one of those. Unless I could afford it, which would make things entirely different!

On the way home I realized how very much that was like a strip club visit: All that eye-candy, at a cost I can't really afford (I can barely imagine the maintenance involved with some of those models). Gawking shamelessly, fantasizing constantly, drooling a bit, and even the occasional furtive fondle despite a really odd-looking headlight here and there. There was that desire to throw a leg over and ride that had to be resisted. There was even my wife's somewhat bemused indulgence at my adolescent interest in checking out all there was to see. But above all there was the realization that no matter how tempting it was to take one home and ride the hell out of it, I needed to be satisfied with the lovely one I already had and would probably just make a fool of myself if I tried.

Each to their own, but to me the D16 is beautiful...

purpose built and perfectly suited to its' purpose.

Well put!  I guess that test ride would be the equivalent of a lap dance. [moto]

I was up to BCM last week for the first time.  Great place to take a break while out riding.  Just hang out and talk bikes with the staff and other customers.
Even meet up with John who's an old friend from another dealership.

I think you missed the point he was making...

hmm...at a strip club I can get my face sandwiched between some nice boobies for $1.   :D

I can't get anything at my Ducati dealer for $1.   :(

I know what you mean.  I'm frequently catching myself just wandering around the dealer, eyes focused in a 100-foot stare, looking for something I need.  Or want.  My wallet tells me I have to be responsible, though.

So difficult.

Saw a customer's Desmosedici in the flesh last visit.  Very nice bike.  Wish I had the skills and bankroll to afford it. The "red" was much more fluorescent on the bike.   Then again, even a 1098 is a LOT of bike for how and where I ride.

Just to make the repellent cost-prohibitive Desmosedici even more ungainly, all maintenance (for two years, I believe) is free when you buy one.  Then they go ahead and extend their service intervals on all their other models too, making them even more affordable.  Is that any way to run a proper strip club?  Where's the exclusivity if we can all afford a lap dance with a happy finish?  Well at least the Desmosedici remains out of reach for most of us.  If not, it would be like any nerd being able to get laid!
If it's got two wheels and a motor, I like it!

I could be mistaken but I think the warranty and service package for the DD16 runs 3 years.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

Well, I decided it was NOT what I liked. I kept telling myself that over and over on the way home, too!

As soon as I can afford one, it'll be the most gorgeous thing ever built.
