The only team rule in motorcycle racing that I've ever heard of is "Be faster than your teammate". The fact that he's on the same equipment as you makes him the first rider you've got to beat.

I didn't make that up, Obi-Wan Kenobe said that.
I forget which episode. ;D

Yeah, I remember that kind of language comin' from obi-wan in his jedi documentary "Faster" [laugh]

Don't the teams at this level of competition have "team rules"? Isn't winning the championship the point? Why have #2 rider put #1 rider further in the hole? I always revert back to the Pedrosa knock down of Hayden in the second to last race in 2006. Although some on the "racing & trackdays" board seem to think nothing was wrong with that, like Hayden somehow deserved it. It's just "racing". Huh? WTF? Honda's lame ass answer (defending Pedro-bot) has never stopped pissing me off. >:(

I'm not defending either side, but go back and watch that race again from 06'.  Hayden almost lost his bike and took out Pedro about three laps prior to the famous incident.  He came into a corner under Pedro and damn near lost the front of the bike in what would have resulted in the same thing.  /shrug

That's been stated many times before. Don't personally remember it but I trust your (and others) memory of it. I still say was it tit for tat? Is it OK for Pedro-bot to return the "favor" to his teammate who was in the championship lead? At least Nicky didn't knock him down! Hayden was racing for the World Championship, Pedro-bot was not. Hayden may have goofed, I can see the point, that's a given. But his teammate shouldn't have returned the "favor" when he wasn't in contention. I know it's heated competition on the track but Repsol Honda's limp excuse/explanation should have had Hayden bustin' some chops in the pits and at corporate. Just saying... Glad he's gone from that mess. It was a bad marriage and that's something I know about! [thumbsup] OK, for the record, not the one I am in now!!!! OK?[laugh]

Pedro actually wasn't out of the championship in Estoril.  He was 34 points adrift with two rounds remaining so his goal was to close that gap to 25 or less going into Valencia.  The numbers were difficult, but he was still in it.  Pedro was riding in great form over most of the season, so it was reasonable for him to push as hard as possible and see what happened, given that Hayden ( experimental clutch or not ) had been a little shaky over the previous four rounds.

I'm not sticking up for Pedrobot and I don't agree with what happened to Hayden, but I don't think he deserves as much flak as he got for the incident.  In the end Hayden still won the championship, so it turned out ok.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

No love lost in the Yamaha MotoGP pits. Rossi even mentions the sweet deal to switch to Ducati. Could be very interesting next year. Makes you wonder when Rossi will leave and go race cars. You just know that's gonna happen sooner or later.

Not sure if Ben Spies is back in Dallas after the season, but I'm pretty sure I saw him running WRL this morning while I was on the pedal bike

Maybe Rossi can write his own contract terms with any team, but does he really think there wouldn't be any friction from the other side of the garage if he went to Ducati? Hah! the gloves would really be off then!
