Not trying to start a "which is best" oil thread, just wondering which motor oil you guys use...

Ducati says full synthetic on all bikes
10-40 is good for all
15-50 or 20-50 can be used on dry clutch bikes as long as the ambient temp isn't too low.

the heavier oils causes the wet clutches to drag slightly, and the adler clutches not to engage as smoothly.

i prefer silkolene (fuchs), so i been having south seas bring that in for a while now, and it has been going in every ducati.

it is a great ester based oil that keeps the engine clean and happy.

also everyone should know to only use ducati filters.
i have seen the others fail on ducatis and it isn't pretty. not pretty at all.

hope that helps

Will, aren't you kind of re-opening the door on the oil filter discussion?  ;)   I'm happy to use the Ducati filter but wasn't there another brand that has been used?  :D

Silkolene is all good and I have no problem having you guys at the shop use it when I've got it in for service. However, I'm going to do an in between service oil change myself and plan on using Mobil One 4T Racing 15-40 because I have it. It worked just fine on the other bikes

Synthetic all the way for sure!!  I think that with the slow, stop & go traffic that we ride in, the oil ought to be changed more often than what the recommended service schedule calls for. Even the best synthetic will take a beating in our bikes on this island. When I see that coolant temp gauge going over 200* I know the oil is working overtime.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.
