...time to start the wagering...  [cheeky]

A bottle of Makers Mark (or equivalent for non Burbon drinkers) says he finishes the championship no better than 5th (or 4th if Stoner doesn't show back up). First response gets the bet.

He's _clearly_ good, but so are Hayden and Dovi and Melandri... I'm not convinced he's Rossi and Lorenzo and Stoner and Pedrosa good. Those 4 are most of a second a lap faster than everybody else, I seriously doubt Spies will match their pace, at least not quickly enough in his first year to be a championship contender.

EvilSteve

Quote from: EvilSteve on September 18, 2009, 08:38:16 AMI doubt he's going to finish anywhere near that high. CE2 is the guy he has to beat & if everything goes well I can see Spies getting similar and potentially slightly better results than CE2.

In the races that Spies did on the GP bike in 2008 his results were really good:
Date    Grand Prix    Pos.
14 Sep. '08   Indianapolis Grand Prix (MotoGP)   6
20 Jul. '08   American Grand Prix (MotoGP)   8
22 Jun. '08   British Grand Prix (MotoGP)   14

He beat his teammate at Indy which was a track that many people didn't have a lot of experience on (if any) and IIRC Spies had tested on because he wasn't a rider at the time. That would suggest that his results *on a Suzuki* would be more around 8th. He seems to learn tracks pretty quickly (the animal thing works!) but that doesn't put him contending for the championship IMO. Honestly, that puts Spies at about the same level as a good 250 rider coming into the sport. I think Spies' talent gives him the opportunity to skip the teething period suffered by so many SBK riders which would be great but it's not going to be until his second year (if at all) that he'll be contending for the Championship IMO.

Quote from: gm2 on September 18, 2009, 09:16:42 AM...so is that a wager or just chatter?   [cheeky]

Quote from: EvilSteve on September 18, 2009, 09:27:04 AMThat's what's known as non-committal opinion vomit...  [laugh]

Not much of a betting man but if you have paypal, I'll put $5 where my mouth (typing) is.

20 bucks says he's going.

From Jester:

QuoteTough to call if he goes or not.  Assuming he stays near his current run of form, he could be knocking on the door of the all time win record, but he'd need to stick around a few more years to do it.  He claims to not care about it, but it has to be a driving force, specially if it gets closer to single digits after next season.

I wouldn't be surprised it he went to F1, as he's always liked cars, but he probably has 2-3 really good years left in him on the bike if he wishes.

I'll take your bet.  I'll donate 20 bucks to the foundation of your choice if Rossi leaves for F1 after the 2010 season.

So I'll hold my end of the bet here.  20 bucks to Tufty's foundation of choice if Rossi doesn't return to GP in 2011.

So are we on? ;D

I've got a bottle of Makers Mark at risk already with Big, Ben's gotta finish the season 4th overall (or better  :P) for me to keep the bottle.
Pretty much the opposite bet....

Chances are I'd win one and lose the other, but I *could* lose 'em both.  [bang]

I'd have to put real money on the line, instead of a bullet from the liquor inventory.  [cheeky]

I expect someone'll take your action.  [beer]

Either way, you should ride up here when Big comes out for Burning Man.  You two are welcome to consume it at my place.   ;D

Oh, yeah, Big and I each get a glass and you drink the rest. I see how you are.  [laugh]

Truthfully, I'd love to do that. Hope I can pull it off.  [beer]

I'll take that bet.  A bottle of JW Black and two Opus that say Yorgie does not win the title.
