A while back I started looking at getting an Aerostich Roadcrafter suit for commuting and touring.  The Aerostich was appealing because of the ease of use (on and off in 10 seconds).  From what I read, the downside to the RC is it's pretty warm for any temp over 80F, which we get frequently in San Jose.  Staying cool is a problem for me, so the RC was out.  A fair amount of research later, I decided to give Motoport (http://www.motoport.com) a try.  Took some measurements and three weeks later I had my custom gear.

I ended up with the Marathon jacket in stretch Kevlar (http://motoport.wsiefusion.net/_product_35442/Marathon_Jacket - mine is much simpler than the picture) and the Ultra II overpants in mesh Kevlar (http://motoport.wsiefusion.net/_product_35442/Ultra_II_Kevlar_Pant).  The stretch Kevlar moves about as much air as denim, so there aren't any heat issues when moving on the bike.  The pants are pretty bulky because of the mesh, but I'm very happy with them.  They go on in about 20-30 seconds and (obviously) move a ton of air.  I got the extra hip armor, which feels more like padding, and the sacrum armor.

The quality is excellent and the armor coverage is much more thorough than other gear I've tried.  I may need to remove the chest armor in the summer to move more air, but it works for this time of year.  The downside - it's pretty ugly, but probably better looking than Aerostich.  Granted, a burlap sack is better looking than an Aerostich...

Customer service was very good.  Wayne, the owner, was helpful when I was doing research and after my gear arrived.  If I gravity check the gear and they can't repair it, they'll replace it for free.  If I decide I want to make some changes to the gear, which I might, I can also send it back for alterations but that will be at my cost.

If you're looking for more information on Motoport reviews, advrider.com's equipment forum has quite a few.

I agree!!  When i started riding i wanted the best gear i could find for my daily commute.  looking for an alternative to Aerostitch (given how ugly it is), i came across motoport/cycleport.  we drove down to their HQ in san diego, and wayne came in on a saturday and spent a couple hours with me, giving me a tour of their facility and explaining all the R&D they had done.  he had racks of torn-up gear made by other manufacturers that his customers had worn before they bought his stuff.  wayne is a great guy and i was quite impressed with his knowledge on the subject.  (he raced bikes before getting into the gear business, so has plenty of first-hand experience.)

i bought a jacket, pants, and gloves, off the showroom floor.  mine are a slightly different model from yours, but same concept - mesh kevlar with full body armor.  the jacket zips to the pants in the back.

i agree with your assessment ... as long as you keep moving, air moves through the jacket.  i always have a messenger bag on my back, which prevents the air from moving freely, but i'd rather sweat a bit and be safe as opposed to staying cool and unprotected.  i've worn the gear in the rain as well and it's performed perfectly.  the pants are all black and, while they are bulky and don't look like normal pants, they're definitely less conspicuous than walking around in leathers.

this gear isn't cheap, but it is worth every penny.  wayne told me he doesn't advertise at all and relies on word-of-mouth for his business.  so i am happy to give his product the  [thumbsup]

I bought their street jeans and body guard jacket... I haven't gravity-tested them, but I'm very happy with the fit and comfort.
Perchance you who pronounce my sentence are in greater fear than I who receive it.
