on the off chance anyone had a new or gently used spare battery laying around... it seems like my current yuasa is about to give it up (after a whopping year of use...).  i figured i would see if i could take one off someone's hands locally before ordering up a new one from ca cycleworks.

anyway, let me know if you have one and what you want for it.  the oem replacement battery is YT12B-BS; though i would take whatever fits also... just want a bike that won't leave me stranded somewhere.

Do you have a garage with an electric outlet at your new digs? I'm thinking Battery Tender from Santa. I still have the original battery in my '04 Gixxer 1000 but it has lived on a BT since day one. By the way, sorry, no spares. Hope someone can help, batteries aren't cheap.

I bought my odyssey locally at a chain store called batteries plus, worth a look, especially since the guy behind the counter was able to give me 10% off immediately just because I asked. 

I've had the Yuasa 7 series for a few years now with no trouble. Methinks you just got a made-on-friday battery or whatever that saying is about lemon cars.

nope, no battery tender for me since there aren't any outlets out there.  unfortunate, yes...but i don't want to just accept that even when i ride the bike every several days, that a battery would go dead like this after a year.

we do have a batteries plus here.  just called them to see if they had the PC680 (i think that's the right model) odyssey in stock, which they did.  so i may just bite the bullet and shell out the $145 for it since richd swears by it.  and they have a 2year free replacement through the store... so that might be worth it right there.  the only question is will the odyssey fit in the battery box, or will i have to go modding things?

I had to get creative with the rubber straps for my Y7 since its smaller. I don't think batteries for bikes come much bigger than the monster 12 series it came stock with. The only consideration you might find troublesome is width.

well, what i could find so far (which isn't much) makes me think that the odyssey is going to be a good bit larger...to where modifications were necessary so that the tank closes without resting on the battery.  i couldn't find the actual specs from yuasa site on the YT12B-BS (which is what i think i have in there) but i looked around on the battery mart site and found a similar match (i think).

as long as you get the one without the metal shell, you're fine, mine fit in the box just fine although I did place two pieces of foam on the lateral edges as it was just a bit shorter in that dimension, otherwise, it fits in the box

if the odyssey is really the end-all-be-all battery, then the extra weight my be worth it, just interesting how much it says it weighs.

yeah...keep in mind though that comparison is to some off-brand unit, and i have no idea if it's remotely close to the dimensions of the OEM.

if time permits this week i may just stop by and pick up an odyssey from batteries plus before my trip up north with the girl... we get to see not one, not two, but THREE sets of families spread out between two states!  awesome...

yeah, the 680 won't fit for the newer battery boxes.  The westco battery will though (which is the same one that desmo times sells btw and I have that one in the 748). 

The 680 weighs the same as the old yuasa that my bike's generation used...

Thought about ponying up for a SpeedCell? They are made of a matrix of 123A batteries, recharge in minutes, feature a quick-disconnect and weigh nothing. You'd simply throw it on and ride off (velcro-ed to existing battery box) and pull it to charge it occasionally inside.

Also prevents any worries of the bike getting wired and ridden away with, if such a worry exists. I think the immobilizer and such do a fair job of preventing such as well though.

well that sucks then... i don't really know anything about the speedcell stuff; didn't want to go crazy... so maybe i'll just get the westco (or yuasa).  at least i'll know i'm good for another year or so.

isn't the odyssey PC310 the one that should fit your bike?
