Merry Xmas All,

Just got back from Holiday's and found my car broken into at a undercover secure(?) parking spot. (F@%#!*$ Low Life's)They got $5, a couple other things......However I had mine and girlfriends bikes keys there........Yes their gone......Luckly not the Bikes though

The bikes are at our Garage 50k's away...however now I have no keys for a 96 Monster 900S as it only had one when I brought it....does anyone have any suggestions?

Does this year bike have a Ducati Factory immobiliser? Can I get a key cut from the VIN and Engine #, Or is it best to replace the whole barrell and lock, Tank and seat locks? Can a locksmith cut a key from the lock if I take the barrel to him?
Please any ideas????

Hope everyone had a safe and Merry Xmas, Happy New Year.....

What bastards!  >:(

My car got broken into at the Hobart airport a few weeks ago when I left it there overnight. They got about $3 in loose change from me but stuffed my door lock.

Can't give you a definitive answer on the ignition. Being a '96 model it would be before immobilisers were fitted so thats a positive. Might need to replace the ignition barrel but also need to get the seat lock swapped over.

You have my sympathy.

A good locksmith can make keys from your lock, you may have to take it off and bring it in.
I have a set of  locks if you have no luck .

dragonworld.

Our 97 750 Monster doesnt have an immobiliser incorporated into the ignition, so you'll be ok there, its just a straight key. [thumbsup]

Personall I'd be seeing about changing the lock or combination of the lock if possible, there is now someone walking around with a Ducati key that fits your bike, and as Murphy is the biggest prick on earth, these clowns might one day come across a 900 Duc and try the key in the lock and.........well you know. [evil]

Just remove all the barrels from seat, tank and ignition and a locksmith should be able to do the business.  [beer]

Moral of the story, NEVER leave anything in your car that you cant afford to lose!! And dont have your rego number and personal details on the keytag, somepeople do, and its a great bonus for the thieveing arseholes that do this shit in having specific vehicle details to look for!!  :o

Option A:

Take ignition switch to locksmith, have him cut key(s) to fit.

Option B:

Take ignition switch to locksmith, have him cut a key to fit.
Use key to open gas cap such that you can remove it.
Take gas cap and seat lock to locksmith, have him swap a few pins around on all 3 locks, and cut key(s) to fit.
That way you have different keys so the perp can't nick your bike if he happens to find it....

you can buy key blanks off e-bay in the original shape, they don't have the little "CRD" logo on the head though, then you just take them to a locksmith with a barrel and they can make duplicates.

Yep, thats what I'd do, as you dont have the imobilizer on that year model.

Well....... I guess some good news.... I had the bike rekeyed by a local locksmith for $110.....I couldn't of brought a key blank from Frazers for that. They gave me the code so I can have more cut when I get hold of a Ducati Blank(not from frazers).....
Took the monster out for a blast this arvo after a couple weeks, she wasn't happy....ran like shiet for the first 5km's coughing and burping...then it cleared and it was all good....

New security measures include a seriously hardened chain and lock, a 2nd lock and bolt on garage door and lots of heavy chain looping through bike/wheels/frame......just in case the prick got my address from the car.... just working out how I can put 240VAC on the bike without upsetting the trickle charger....hehehehehe

Happy News Years All, Hope to see you on some rides on 2010.....Monster On !!
