Annual New Years Day ride!

I've been the last three years to the traditional 1st ride of the year to Tortilla Flat, and it's always great to see all the bikes that come out of the woodwork for this.  I don't know who started it, but there are several groups, clubs, individuals, etc., that head out.  It's not a spirited ride at all, in fact it can be a slow parade lap getting out to the restaurant, but for me it's become more of a right of passage than a ride.  :)  We usually meet for coffee, head to the restaurant, and then break off for runs up to the end of the pavement when the mood hits us.  Rest of the time is spent mingling with other riders, listening to the sounds, and taking pics.  Possibly grabbing some lunch on the way back to town.   [thumbsup]

I propose this meeting spot/group ride outm on Jan 1st, 2010, please join us!

Meet at Coffee Rush at 8am. It's on the SE corner of Baseline & Gilbert (just south of the 60, exist at Gilbert): http://tinyurl.com/CoffeeRush

Kickstands up at 9am, sharp!  We'll get gas close by and head to Tortilla Flat.  http://tinyurl.com/CoffeeRushToTTF

Hope to see some of you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cool.  Maybe we can meet right off the 51 somewhere.  I could exit at Colter (for Camelback), meet you near Trader Joes or something, and we could pop back on at the Highland exit.

I heard, from another guy who goes to Tortilla Flat every New Years, that the best time to get there is after 1:00pm because most guys don't head up early because of the cold weather. He said the best vintage bikes don't even get there until 2:00pm.

Well, I quickly punched that guy right in the face and told him that Ducati riders are tough as nails and don't care what other people do.

But then I got to thinking ... what if we did this route -- click here for map -- ?

It's a combo route that includes sample dishes from both the Winkleman ride that Nate posted and this Tortilla Flat ride.

Just an idea to kick around. I'm not married to it.

Whatever happened to the idea of going to TF through the top-side from Roosevelt?  Pussies!

Just looking out for those who might need to put a foot down, especially when that foot is still wrapped up in a temporary cast.  [thumbsup]

I thought about that.  If Nate's group was leaving about 2 hours earlier I would be more interested in it.  As it is...They are meeting at 9, probably leaving around 10 (?). then 4-6 hours ride time including gassing and BS'ing.  We have left earlier than 8 before, not been too cold, and TONS of bikes.  I'm telling ya!  We can always ride the Kearny/Winkelman loop anytime (it's one of my favs) but only once a year is the first of the year! :)

Vote for Pedro.

Who broke their foot?

Michael

Charles has his foot in a cast.  :(

Hey Dietrich, so not lunch at Tortilla Flat, but somewhere on the way back?

I'd like to put in a suggestion -- www.mokis.com (I made their website)

Delicious, healthy, vegetarian meals available, and guaranteed no food poisoning. It's right off the freeway on Val Vista.

Charles is kind of a frail lil' man isn't he? First he cries about getting rearended..

I get back in town just in time to winch my name out of the mud. I am brace and crutch free and will be there on the 1st.
