Wow that is the first time I've seen a pic of the actual merlin jacket. When I search the net all I can find are the stock photos. Is the fit true to the size chart? Did the Dstore list it for anything less than msrp?

I have a handfull of Merlins left in stock that are on clearance.  Do you have a rough idea of what size you would be looking for?

I would say, depending on the jacket, you should fit a 56 nicely.  Unfortunately, over the last couple of days, I have sold out of the Merlin with the exception of one size 50.  Sorry.

I'm 6'4" 220lbs. 44" chest, 40" around the widest part of my belly. The 56 Dainese is perfect for me including a back protector, although I remove a bubble liner if it has one. So, 56 is a snug comfortable fit for me - if you at 180lbs get a 56 it will be bordering on a loose fit. IMO [thumbsup]

Airborn I'm about your height 5'11" ish and about 200.  Not sure what my current chest is, but probably 44+ as well, on a 34 waist. I just snagged a 56 Santa Monica and it's a perfect fit to me. At 20 pounds less, unless you've got no meat on your legs and it's all up stop, a 56 will probably be too big by 1 notch. Of course, trying one on will be the real test. I'm a 56 jacket but needed a 58 1pc. I had trouble zipping a 56 1pc w/o a back protector. With one in I couldn't breathe.

It all depends on the jacket or suit.  I was speaking directly to the Merlin which has a narrow cut.  We have a huge range of cuts, and the sizing varies quite a bit because of it.  I am 6'5" 260lbs and within our own line, I can wear anything from a 56 to a 64 depending on the garment.  That is precisley why I dislike the fact that we even offer a sizing chart on line, and why it is important to speak to someone familiar with the line if you are unable to try the item on in person.

DaineseDan,
do you know if the Gran Premio jacket and the Newsan jacket is a similar cut/fit?

Good words here.  And this all leads me to a question.  I am considering buying a perforated Santa Monica jacket in 52.  I am currently wearing an A-Stars Alloy in 54 and the fit is not that great.  It is loose in the mid-section, but a bit tight in the chest.  And if anything, the arms are a touch long.  There are not any shops here in Hawaii that stock much of squat, so I am always having to decide "blind".  So with that in mind, do you think a 52 S. Mon. would be a good fit for me Dan?  I am about 5'9" tall, roughly 185 lbs (for now, but will be down to 175 or so in a month or two).  I have a 34-35" waist, and between 43-44 in chest with an average arm length of about 20&1/2" when measured from shoulder socket to wrist.  Also, my neck is about 16-16&1/2".

^^^ For a perfect fit, you need to have it altered.  ;)  Nobody can make a leather jacket fit perfectly to 5 million people.

[thumbsup]

Not really.  The Newsan is a very fitted sport cut utilizing the Bubble liner, whereas the Gran Premio is more of a square cut and has the removable ValTherm liner.  Sizewise, you'd probably be in the same ballpark, but they will definitely feel different.

I think, given your measurements, a 52 would be a great fit, especially if you plan on losing weight.  I would however, take a look at a couple of other jackets being that you are in Hawaii.  The Santa Monica comes with a very warm removable liner that you will never use in Hawaii.  No point in paying for something you won't use.  I would take a look at the Newsan or the new Racing jacket.  They are very similar to the Santa Monica in style and features, but the Newsan features the Bubble liner instead of the ValTherm liner used in the S.M., and the Racing jacket has no thermal liner of any kind.  Both are cheaper than the Santa Monica.

The Newsan:

BTW...the pricing on the website for the Racing jacket is incorrect.  It is $599.00, not $719.00.

Just to give you a head's up, I also have the 2009 Del Mar left on clearance in size 52, marked down from $899.00 to $629.00.

Thanks for all the info Dan.  One of the reasons that I do like the S.M. is that there is a pretty good chance that I will be leaving Hawaii this summer for lands unknown (big "perk" of being in the military).  With that in mind, I like the fact that the S.M. can be used in such varied climates.  Plus, the one that I am looking at is a perf model.  Another reason that I am looking at this one so hard is the fact that the majority of it is white in color, and will satisfy most military location's requirement for light colored jackets to ride on post.  I was originally looking at the Delmar, but figured that the black back panel (on the white jacket) would raise a few too many eyebrows.  I was also quoted a very nice price on the S.M., close to the price of your Delmar, but shipped to me.  So with that in mind, what color is your Delmar?  Is it a perf?  And what features would you say set the two jackets apart from each other?

Thanks again!   [thumbsup]
