are my pod filters too big?

im just curious, i bought a set of pod filters and have them installed on my 97 m750 carbs. .  i bought them from chris at ca-cycleworks. they are the k&n 1750. .  the only thing is they seem like a larger diameter than the stack they sit on. .  i tightened the clamp so i dont think they will go anywhere, but they are not sitting as tiht as i think they should be. .  is there a adapter so place inbetween the stack and pod filter that makes it a tighter fit?  thanks

no such thing as too big. Your engien will suck what it needs. TPO beasts filters are atleast 25% bigger than the one chris sells.

The complete set fibrates a bit. But the filter has to sit tight on the velocitystack.

I think he's asking about the flange diameter, not the overall size.  AFAIK, the one's Chris sells are for FCRs, which have slightly larger mouth.  Maybe he'll chime in and dispell my misconceptions, but FWIW, as long as they're tight enough to stay on (and NOT suck unfiltered air around the base of the flange opening) they're fine.

FWIW-II-I use UNI oil-soaked foam filters instead of K&Ns, but the flange is pretty much the same.  They come in 1.4" increments. In discussions with my UNI rep, he told me that they will tighten all the way down to the lower size.  I.E. if you use a 2 1/2" flange, it will tighten all the way down to a 2 1/4" opening, the next smaller size available.

yeah i was talking about the diameter of where it sits. .  i kind of have to tighten up the clamp a bit too much to get it to tighten on the carbs stack. . . i dont think there is a crevis where air can get in but im not positive. .  i just know they can fit better. .  and i guess my question was answered. .  i did get my pods from ca-cycleworks so im assumng i got the wrong ones. . . i dont have fcr carbs, just stock. . . maybe i will get a new pair of pod filters that sit tighter. .  or make some sore of adapter. .  any ideas are welcome

I got those filters from chris as well, fits on my bike just fine though i am using FCRs (from Chris too)

If you can tighten them down to the point that they won't rotate, you're fine.  The difference between the OEM Keihins and the FCRs isn't much.  The OEM rubber velocity stacks/airbox adaptor fit with a bit of elbow grease.

yeah, not only iwll mine rotate, but i cna pop them off and pop them back on without even loosening the clamps. .  not good. . .  i do have the stock air box so im gonna cut a ring out and try to fit it insode the pods and wiggle them on tighter to seal it better. . .  thanks guys. . .  in the future maybe i will buy the fcr's

If you have your stock airbox, you don't have to cut anything.  Pull the rubber stacks out. See if they fit INSIDE your flange.  That's how I mounted mine with the UNI's because I wanted the velocity stack.  If your pods are like Blackreplica's (15 degree angle) it may not work, but it's easy to try.  On my Uni's, the OEM rubber bit fits perfectly inside the flange, it just takes sitting in the sun for 10-15 minutes before I can stretch them over the inlets on the FCRs.

the fcrs have a slightly ovaled intake adapters, the stock velocity stacks fit, with a little bit of stretching, so if you got the ones for the fcrs, they would be a little big, i would try to find some rubber weather strip to put inside to make the hole a little smaller. or the idea of using the stock velocity stacks in the filters may work.
