Monsters are BiPo, it's just a seat cowl that covers the pillion area.  Unless the previous owner ponied up for the DP Mono seat/cowl seat up

Duc L'Smart

I seem to remember something about the M900s being somewhat unique, maybe not as much compatibility with other models, i.e. accessories not fitting, etc...
Does this sound right?

I think you are correct, DLS.

The 2001 M900 was the top end monster was getting the trickle down parts first, so I do believe it was the first FI Monster (maybe Immobilizer too).  I think it was the guinea pig before the M1000 and the motor upgrades (600->620, 750->800,900->1000) occured

Yes, but then I'd have a Monster without the dry clutch...booo.

Sport 1000 (preferably black)

I know i can only have two of the three without modifying an 06. So, I'm "settling" if I get a monster to get the other two things. But I'm starting to think it's not such a bad thing. Maybe I'll just have to scoop up the sport 1000 in a year or two.

IMHO, you'll regret "settling". I know I did. Every time. Life's short...
My .02- quit looking at Monsters. Wait for a nice '07. You are NOT (believe me) going to see any performance difference, & the wet clutch in town is SOOO much more better.

I hear 'ya. But the dry clutch is something I fell in love with the first time I saw/heard a Ducati. So, really, I'm settling no matter what I get at this point. The question just becomes, "how do I settle?"

I agree.  Unless you're aching to open up the cover and hear the Ducati music, you will probably be happier with a wet clutch.

My worthless advice for you is:  Shop SportClassic 1000.  Shop price.  Take your time... the deal will come along.  You must have patience grasshopper!

You can still hear the rattle of the clutch on the wet clutches, it's just not as loud.

The guy wants a dry clutch.  Whether it is wise to get one for your first bike/Ducati because of the stiffer clutch pull or not is something he has to discover for himself.

Pimp, ride a dry clutch bike preferably an older bike and get into traffic.  It will be stiff to pull but can be remedied a bit.  It will never be as easy as the "new wet clutch".  Those are much lighter. 

If I am correct, the 2001 900 is FI.  I think AlanD's bike is an '01.  He can comment on the bike's parts availability.  It's  a strong motor and has great fuel mileage to boot.  He gets 50+ MPG while my M1000cc gets 40 MPG on a good day.

The dry clutch is a red herring. In reality, the clutch doesn't make a damn bit if difference, & having 2-up does  ;D

Meh, we'll see. I've never minded stiff clutches in a car before. I'll get on that 900 tomorrow and see how it goes. If I hate it, I won't buy it. Simple as that. I'm not in the business of buying something to satisfy an urge. I may be impatient, but I want what I want, not a substitute.
