How about Floyd Bennett Field?  I haven't been but have heard folks practice there.

Does anyone know how it works here?  Google maps shows a big airfield...do they just let anyone on the runways?  I.e., could one take their bike out on the runways and practice exercises without getting hassled?

Howie

No guarantees, but they have let people practice, both bikes and cars, as long as they conduct themselves in a safe, responsible manner.  Start poppin wheelies and stoppies, doing burn outs and other exhibitionist behavior and they will not be happy.

if u see a cop, just dont go nuts and pull wheelies. usually they ar epretty cool about it. Stunint though...not really. just riding around is fine.

i take brooklyn to get to FDR, i didnt know it was only $2bucks for bikes...that makes it worth it..... i always thought it was $5.

Yeah man.  $2.50 for bikes via cash... $1.99 or so for bikes with EZpass.

Are there certain hours/days that it's "open" or cost anything to get onto the field?  I've really just gotta go down there, but any FHE you care to share would be awesome!

Free, access is open to the public and the field is part of Gateway National Park.  As far as hours when you can practice, my guess is reasonable and during daylight.
