so i found a dealer that could get me a black 07 S4RS still in the crate
I gave my CC left a deposite.  Today when i called to ask for the MSO so i could fax it to the boarder, he had bad news.  The sales rep would not allow him to sell me the bike because i am in Canada  :-[
Total BS.  The bike in the US is over $2500 less that what i would pay at the local dealers.  Acutally about 4k less, but i talked them down $1500.
If Ducati knows there is such a price difference then they should fix the f'n Canadian price [bang]
The dealer is not happy either, it;s money out of his hands.
What the hell happened to a free market.

Hey Ducati, that Aprilla looks mighty good right about now  [wine]

Glad to hear that you eventually found a deal on a bike in Canada.  However, I wanted to pass along some more information.  I don't know the whole story on DNA's reasoning, but I do know this - from reading another forum where a guy in Canada bought a 2008 Hyper Motard in the US and got screwed when he tried to import it into Canada.

Take a look a the rules from Transport Canada.  All 2008 Ducati's are Inadmissible for import into Canada.
http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/VAFUS/list/Section8_0.htm
The American dealer probably saved you a bigger headache by not selling you the bike, because then you may have been stuck with a bike sitting in the U.S. and your money in DNA's pocket, all the while fighting with Transport Canada and DNA on why you can't get the bike imported.

Either way, I'm glad you found a good deal there in Canada!

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy.

Thanks guys, i called up the local dealer, and he gave me a SMOKIN Deal on an 08 Tri-color  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Even less than the US MSRP  :o  ;D $14500 plus tax OTD  [thumbsup]
Left a deposite, bike ordered, going to sign papers tonight, and dealer said i would be riding by the weekend [moto]

Awesome!!!!! Love a happy ending  ;D
And, IMHO, the Tri-colore is MUCH better looking than the black...

Ahemmmm,,,,,,Glad thats "Just your Opinion" In reference to the above post  :)

Good that the local dealer gave U a good deal. Someone already mentioned a way around this BS. Have a friend in the US buy the bike & sell it to U as a used bike. DNA cant do anything about it.

Its set up this way to protect the Canadian dealers. Or, all the Canucks would be crossing the border buying bikes.

I was talking to a friend who lives in Denmark . I told him I had a 1098R and he said he would have liked to get one but in Denmark, Ducati sold the 1098R for the eqivalent of $55,000 US and here in the US they sold for $39,995. The US gets Ducatis cheaper than any other country. Lucky us !

A big hunk of that 55 large is taxes by the importing country - it's not quite accurate to say Ducati sells it for that much.  Ducati sells it for somewhat less of that (though probably still higher than in US) then the state taxes the holy christ out of it to pay for Danish welfare and schools.

Just for the record :
Monster 695 is 8000 Euro in Germany = 12.500 US
And then Denmark takes a 120% tax on top of that.
Another 15.000 US
So I am looking at 27.000 US without any extras ... for an entry level bike
And now stop whining ;)

"i can get you an 08 tricolore for mmm $14500"
"14500?"
"yes $14500"
"S4rs?  Tricolore for $14500"
"yes"
"$14500 plus tax OTD? S4RS?
"yes, i'll let that sink in and call me back when you are ready"

And Canada has no duties on motorcycles no matter where they are made.

At  the delaer they also had Hypermotards for damn good prices.  As little as $12500 for a non S, and $14600 for an all black S
