For the few people who are okay with using this brand. i just picked up 6 of them for $43 bucks shipped.

http://www.amazon.com/HiFlo-Filter-HF153-Oil/dp/B000WJCZIO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1274492047&sr=8-3

That comes to $7.16 per oil filter. about $6 cheaper than OEM and K&N at their cheapest price (12.95)
and loads cheaper than the dealer.

Not a whole lot in savings if your making $40 bucks an hour, and certainly not worth the savings if you think your motor is going to blow up by using this brand.

I've been using the Hi-Flo filters for years.

Your bike won't blow up.

There's a few people here that don't know what they're talking about.

If the Hi-Flo filters were good enough for Bruce Meyers they're good enough for me.

who is bruce meyers?

it is definitely interesting to know which of the parts brands are the ones that make OEM stuff and just slap the oem printing on them.

so hiflo is the company that makes "ducati" branded filters?

do the hiflo filters have the same sort of kooky odd number of flat sides to the bottom of the filter?

I have to admit that the kn filters are nice for the wleded on nut on the bottom, if only other manuf of oil filters would do the same thing.

wonder who makes the "ducati" branded air filters and fuel filters and fuel pumps so that those could be cheaper than paying for the printing on them.

I like the K&N filters for the nut and it's easier to lock wire.

Mikuni make a vacuum pump for carb Monsters. Cal Cycleworks sells them for only a little more than the cost of a rebuild kit in the US. My dealer sells the stock pump for over $100-00 and no rebuild kit is available here.

Surely there are auto suppliers of air filters. I'm using a K&N air filter. It's already paid for itself.
I use an Small auto style stainless bodied Speco fuel filter that you pull apart and clean. I think it has an internal bronze mesh filter. When I was cleaning out my tank I used small, disposable auto plastic filters with the internal paper element.

is there any proof that hiflo make the ducati filters?  the two i compared today are certainly very different in what you can see thru the threaded hole.

i don't bother stocking hiflo ones for ducatis as every person i give the option to of $19.80 hiflo or $27 ducati filter goes ducati.  i had to talk someone into taking it to get it off the shelf.  i don't just fit hiflo ones like many local shops or dealerships do simply because people don't expect it and then they get upset when they find out i fitted a non genuine ducati part.  cost i find is pretty irrelevant to the consideration in the price differential we're talking here.

i have hiflo ones for mv as they're $25 compared to $55 or so for genuine and for the aprilias also - there's certainly nothing wrong with them.

I don't believe they do.

I just use them because they're less expensive and work fine.

Who's to say the manufacturer doesn't make a different spec for the bike company? Gates for example.

sorry, that's probably my badly worded point.  hiflo might make them, but they're not the same as far as i can tell.

wasn't meaning to attack anyone.

I didn't take it that way Brad, probably my wording at fault. I was gonna call today, but work was crazy (you'll know what I mean). I'll call tomorrow.

I may have to make a full retraction re the filters even being made by the same company as I spoke to another bloke at the Honda dealer today and he reckons his colleagues there are wrong! He was as emphatic as they were! If there's an egg on face smiley I'm probably going to need it. I'm going to drop into the shop tommorrow to start a fight among the guys there :)

If I have misled anyone I apologise. Please disregard my statements about the two filters being the same or even made by the same company. My information I have contributed to this thread about those points is unreliable.(Seppukku smiley).

Rock Store

UFI= Universal Filter Italiana SPA,supplliers of Ducati oil filters and Ferrari & several others.
Hi Flo also makes the K&N filter with the fancy nut.....via ala Champion labs, I believe.
my choice is OEM with the 23psi by pass,16mm thread instaed of 5/8
later...RS

ducatiz

Ducati brand filters are made by UFI and Athena.  Athena also makes the gasket sets.

RS and Ducatiz.
You are absolutely correct.
My information was incorrect after further discussion with my sources (their confusion was caused by the relationship between K&N and Hiflo).
My assertion that Hiflo and OEM were the same was incorrect.
I therefore retract my statements about that and apologise to anyone I have misled.

(Edit) I have removed the incorrect information.
