So i'm in the market for clip-ons.  I'm looking for ones that mount above the steering column thingy.  I want them to be fairly adjustable and I want them to be black.  Anybody know what clip-ons I should be looking at?

This is a good place to start.. Black. Two options. One for only $99.00 and the other for $419.00 http://www.monsterparts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=MP&Offset=12&SortBy=&Category_Code=Bars-Mirrors

Hm the Apex look better for more bang-for-the-buck.  Anybody have pics of the Apex ones installed?  My biggest concern in adjusting the riding position so that it isn't too too far off from stock.  I do a lot of touring so it needs to be fairly comfortable.

I know that Jeff was talking about Apex coming out with clip-ons with risers.  I'd probably check with him to see if they're available.

the Apex currently dont have risers, they are COMPLETELY different from stock. You may also run into clearence issues because things get real tight, especially with coffin resoviors.

So is my only option the ~$400 rizomas??  I just want something that looks badass and functions well, even for long rides.

your not getting much difference from stock bars when you compare to the rizoma clip ons (PJs has them and they arent that price anymore since the euro went up). I have tomasellis and they are about 2inches lower than stock, even with a 1.5inch rise. Still no go for the long rides. its brutal (i have short reach, 66inch hieght and 66inch arm span) it kills my wrist and back on the 2+ hour rides. im going to go back to bars once the season is over since ill be doing mostly commuting in the fall/early spring season.

I've got the Rizomas.  The new triple that is included is a beauty.  The bars themselves are a touch longer than the stock bar. They sit at about the same height as stock and there is a small bit of fore/aft adjustability (with the end attaching to the triple as the pivot point)

I would gladly post a pic or two, but my bike is currently undergoing surgery at the local Duc shop.

So I posted a pic previously showing my apex clip-ons.  I figured it might help if I made a list of pros/cons.  Some may disagree but this is how I see it:

Pros to Apex Clip-ons:

  • Riding position helps with highway windblast.
  • Moves rider weight forward a bit and more over the handlebars, making bike more stable and lowering potential for headshake.
  • Lowers the center of gravity of rider/bike.
  • Makes rider feel more connected to the bike.
  • Helps me to keep good posture, and forces me to use back/stomach muscles more.
  • They are quite adjustable so you are able to play around with almost infinite options for placement.
  • They look really cool and gave me the look I wanted for the front of the bike.

Cons to Apex Clip-ons:

  • Riding position can be fatiguing on long rides.  (If I were riding for more than 2-3 hours at a time I would not have them)
  • Fitment can be challenging with coffin reseviors. (stated previously in the thread)
  • Changes the feel of the bike. (this can be a pro or a con)
  • Usually leads to many many many more mods because putting them on acted as a gateway to my modding addiction.

I am sure others have different views so feel free to add to the lists.

any clip ons can be made black by powdercoat or anodizing.  find the ones that fit you and your bike the best then make the color happen.

Apex ~ Love them!

Are you able to adjust the degree of the Apex's angle somehow? It says they have a 9degree down angle but are adjustable...I'm looking for more of a straight-out feel.

Mine are as straight as they are going to get with the Apex. Check out my flickr page below for a front show of the clipons.

I'm still holding out for the APEX risers, anyone have any info?  (PMed Jeff to no avail).  I'd contact APEX directly but when I google them, I get about five different results that could be the one I'm looking for.

Anyone have a url for them?
