the thing about choosing a healthcare plan, you never know what you'll need.  [bang]

i purposely chose one of the higher level plans because i know that when i get hurt i do a good job. lol
the HMO is not even a consideration.  [laugh]

and i love that as we are choosing our plans we keep getting e-mails and such from the company requesting that we choose teh cheapest one possible to save them money.

that stinks travis  :-\

just to be sure... i'd make sure the insurance company isn't making a mistake
double triple check your policy.
Insurance companies don't make mistakes.

They make the beast with two backs you intentionally. ;)

Sorry to hear that Travis.

i know they do it intentionally.
it bother the hell out of me that i pay them all this money every month for years and then they just decide that they aren't going to pay it because they don't want to and it's totally fine.

now i'm REALLY glad that i didn't get a helicopter ride. i'd be on the hook for $6k just for them to come out.

...and unfortunately most people choose the plan they can afford, not the one they may need.

It's a lousy situation.

That's cause you can't afford the one you need, so you pay a shit ton for one you can't use instead.

i choose the one i wanted. the money comes out pre-tax so i'm ok with it and i budget around that.
even when i was making $12K/yr at the same company i did that.
of course the plans have changed quite a bit since then.

You're right...

except I've decided to buck the system.

I hate paying for stuff I can't use.

i just got more bills from my accident. that brings the grand total up to $23,714. This does not include bills from the doctor who put the plate in.

i'm sure insurance will cover a good deal, but i'm worried because I got 2 invoiced from the am,bulance company. 1 for $602 and 1 for $1150. the ins co is paying $541 for the first and $337 for the second leaving me with $890, or about 50%, to pay on my own. i'm pretty sure i chose the plan that has them paying closer to 90% of the bills.
i hope this is just because it's the ambulance co.

this also puts everything else that i was going tos pend money on this year on hold.

stupid bones, why do they have the be breakable. i want my adamantium skeleton already

I'll give you $50 if I get to remove your beard with my circular saw.

I got a call from the hospital's "financial adviser" yesterday.  Since I don't have insurance, I might be on the hook for $12,000.   :P   [bang]

She's sending me a "packet" to fill out and return with the last 3 months' pay stubs.  If I do everything correctly, and qualify, most if not all of the bill may be written off by the hospital.

[fingers crossed]
